Kindness is one of the greatest traits of humankind. It is the symptom of love and concern for our fellow human beings. Adherence to rules is death. The letter of the law kills. The "law" demands strict adherence to a set of tenets that cancels out the human factor altogether. Kindness which is an act of love begets its own kind. On the flip side so does the law. kindness is forgiveness, law is guilt and guilt condemns without knowledge of or regard to a persons circumstances. I vote for that which people are worthy of and that's kindness. Excellent question.

Rules are generally put in place to ensure everyone is better off, ex. don't steal, don't murder anyone, etc. Sometimes kindness and loyalty to the rules can clash, but it is important to weigh the consequences of both outcomes and decide for yourself what the correct course of action would be. This sometimes means disobeying rules.
