I believe it was Jesus that taught us to beware those that appear "outwardly" righteous," the ones that go around "shouting" or "speaking" their prayers so everyone is forced to hear their "righteous" behavior.
And I also think he taught that a "silent" prayer between you and God is "just as" if not "more" effective for you and those around you...

So...
Is it not ridiculous that this "issue" even comes up...?!?
If a student can pray "silently," then he can "pray" whenever he wants to, all day long, and nobody can stop him, so what the "hail" are people even debating this ludicrous topic for...?!?

We already allow "prayer" in school...!
We just don't want "audible" prayer that would disrupt a teacher's ability to "teach," not "preach..."

It was most certainly NOT Madelyn Murray O'Hair [sic]. It was the Jewish Steven I. Engel of Long Island.

The court case was Engel v. Vitale in New York state. The plaintiffs included one agnostic, one Unitarian, 2 Jews, and one Protestant Christian.

Mrs. O'Hair [sic] won a later case (Murray v. Curlett + Abington School District v. Schempp) involving Bible readings in Maryland.

My guess is someone took it too far and someone who didn't believe in praying protested and I don't blame them even tho I'm a Christian because I don't want any other religion being taught in school to my kids. Open the door for one and you open the door for all. School should be neutral.

Separation of church and state as specified in the First Amendment and applied to the states via the Fourteenth Amendment.

It wasn't until the 60's that people added these together to realize it was unconstitutional.

That would be Madalyn Murray O'hair. She and her family were murdered, dismembered, and hidden in steel drums. I know the bodies were found. Don't know if the crime has been solved.
