She has started eating like crazy and is gaining weight. She realizes it too. Is there a way to change her eating habits? I also heard that if kids eat right they will lose weight, because they have faster digestive tracts, is this true?

don't purchase processed foods when you go shopping so they are not in the home. make healthy lunches for her so she doesn't have to buy food at school. for the most part the metabolism of young children are supposed to be able to handle high sugar and high fat diets. when they can't this is one of many signs that they may have the genetic potential for obesity and the majority of overweight 11-13 year olds grow up to be overweight adults.

First of all she has to have a desire to change. With her age she might also be going through a growth spurt and that might be the reason for the eating and weight gain. I think the best thing to do is to provide her with healthy foods and teach her about portion control. You might also want to take her to a doctor just to make sure that everything is ok. I have never heard that kids have a faster digestive tract. I think that is probably false information. Good luck to you both.

What are you buying for her to eat? You need to provide healthy food: chicken, fish, fruit, vegetables. Get rid of the junk food and soft drinks. It is up to you to give her a healthy diet.

If she eats right her metabolism will be encouraged to speed up a bit. She can eat often, since she is in a growth spurt, but just monitor what it is that she eats. Snakcs should be apple slices, celery slices, carrot sticks, and fresh spinach, yogurt, granola...none of these things will harm her if she accidentally overeats.

13 years old children are crazy hungry, there's no stopping them, their hormones are changing and their growing all the time. Encourage her to make healthy choices, and don't let he starve herself. She needs to eat. It's just a matter of what she eats.
