I'm no preacher so maybe i am not the one to give advice. Your question touched me so i figured it wouldn't hurt.
The way i see it is that God never said that he would interfere in our lives this is why we have free will. He said that life would not be more than anyone could bear.
I never seen nor heard in any religious book that suicide or taking ones own life is ever mentioned, but then I do not believe everything is placed in the religious books.
In all honesty I believe that through bad translations and certain ancient papers were left out of Holy books that man has corrupted the books we use as guides. I believe the true word of God is written in our hearts. i think we all know even at a very young age what is right or wrong.
i think we are not judged by God through a religion but by each person and how they lived. as we know there is good and bad in every religion.
So saying this I would have to say the answer is in you which maybe or not the same for everyone else.

I do not believe people who commit suicide go to Heaven. My reasoning is this...If you commit suicide, were you really a Christian in the first place? I am only asking this because if you are a Christian you know God has a plan for you and you are here for a purpose. As Christians, our purpose is to glorify God, and bring others to Christ. However, if you commit suicide, what are you telling other people, that you couldn't take it anymore, and that God couldn't help you through this tough time in your life, even though he says that he will in the Bible? If Christians begin commiting suicide, it gives non-Christians the wrong message of, being a Christian is so incredibly horrible they had to get away from it, even if it meant suicide. ALTHOUGH, it is quite possible, there is that tiny group, maybe 0.01% that were Christians, went through an incredibly tough time in their life, fell away from God and felt suicide was the only way out, but that is for God to decide the true intent of their hearts. I hope this helps :)

If God were conscious of the existence of sin, then He would be subject to death, just as a human thought is, but He is not conscious of what does not exist. He is infinite and fills all space with love, life, and truth. Hell is a place where one would believe that suicide is a solution, and as one turns to truth for answers rather than evil, then this seeming hell is destroyed and true light is seen at last. God's plan for Himself does not include any evil, and man reflects God forever.

Committing suicide, which is the act of taking one's life, is simply a cowardly way of running away from a problem which was incidentally created by the individual. He is neither going to heaven nor hell but MUST reincarnate within the shortest possible time, to face the same problem. It is just like running away because you fail an examination in school. You cannot move on without passing that examination. We must always remember this, "nobody is given a load more than he/she can carry" and there is always a solution to a problem. Finally, no matter how serious a situation is, it must pass. Nothing , except change, is permanent.

Here is what Scripture says about it. People can either accept it or deny it carry the burdens themselves or not!
Jeremiah 1:5 there is hope and you are not alone.
Matthew 28:20
Deuteronomy 4:29
2nd Corinthians 5:15
Exodus 20:13 People choose not to obey a Command. It is not a suggestion.

The persons who jumped from the World Trade Center towers on nine/eleven didn't devote suicide. Through occasions external in their manipulate they had been going to die, there used to be not anything they might do approximately it they usually knew it. They simply selected the method in their dying. That is not suicide.

God forgives all sins except the one sin that denies Him. This sin ascribes to God what Satan has done, in that a person blasphemes the Spirit God that has been sent to call a person to righteousness. By saying with full knowledge "I do not believe", a person has in effect participated in the very first lie told in Eden.
Taking one’s own life is an offense against God, the Giver of all life. But suicide is no greater a sin as any other sin. If a person is truly saved, God will forgive this sin, too, just as He forgives other sins of those who claim the "credit" given them by the atoning sacrifice of Christ.

Think about it this way-why would God want you to end your life short, especially if you're a Christian? He'd want you to live a model life and show others that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. Is committing suicide really a 'model' thing to do? If you are truly a Christian, you want to live your life and feat death. I don't want to die. I want to continue my pursuit of knowing my savior more. At the same time, I want to learn Japanese perfectly. I have conviction in my heart to learn Japanese perfectly by age 25. I also have Jesus in my heart. Him being there helps one to know that what I am doing will be for the glory of God.
Suicide does not glorify God. A Christian, one who repents of his sins and acknowledges that Jesus is the only to heaven and thus puts his faith in Jesus, should be happy to serve the Lord on this fallen Earth. Ending your life is certainly not helping anyone, but yourself. It is helping you get to heaven quicker, if you even go to heaven. There's a bit of a loophole here, because how can Christians go to hell. I would have some doubts if a Christian honestly committed suicide and we all thought he would be in heaven. If one is truly on fire for the Lord, the last thing they would think about is ending their lives. God uses you to do his work; all we have to do is trust that our passions, our aspirations and our dreams are in accordance to his will. The things we love, and our personality, is part of God’s creation. Use the Bible to discern if what you are doing is right.
God would never have it in his plan for someone to kill himself. How would that satisfy God's plan. God's plan is so great, and we will never understand it completely. That's why when someone who is on fire for the Lord dies, people wonder why. Perhaps hundreds of people found Christ through that death. Remember, God doesn't kill anyone. People kill people. God simply allows the person to die. God obviously doesn't like murder. But what about those random deaths? Bad things happen. It's why we need a God to trust so that when bad things happen, we will have faith in a loving God who has final sovereignty. We are called to love everyone, like Jesus did, in hopes that they will find God, by repenting of their sins. If a Christian ends his life, it hurts everyone. God does not want that.

Before any preacher or church teaches anything about any topic, they ought to have clear evidence of that teaching from God's Word, that is the 66 books of the Holy Bible.
There is nothing in the Bible that even remotely suggests that all who take their own life will go to hell.
So I'm not going to address the reasons why you should not take your own life, but simply address this issue from the Bible.
Since the teaching you refer to is not found in the Bible, then its obvious, at least to me, that those churches which teach that got it somewhere else.
And yes I'm well aware that one major relgious group does teach that, and if you study their books and their logic as to why they teach that its clear how arrogant they are and how they are teaching the doctrines of men as if they are from God.
Jesus taught against that.
Run, don't walk from such a wicked and perverted religious organization.
Their view of God is that He is a mean OGAR up there waiting to zap us when and if we mess up.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
God is loving and patient, He loves us so much that while we were yet sinners, He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in our place.
He sent Jesus to die so that even Hitler and Stalin and Saddam Hussein could be saved.
All they had to do is repent of their sins, admit that they had sinned, admit the Jesus is God who died for their sins and rose from the dead and then ask Jesus to forgive them.
That's all any of us have to do to become a Christian.
However no one becomes a Christian when they are baby or upon the decision of parents or God parents.
If you contact me, one on one, I'll be glad to try and explain this better.
By the way I just read all the other answers to this question and none of the Bible passages cited address the topic of suicide.
They do list Exodus chapter 20 which is where the 10 Commandments are found. One of them says, "Thou shalt not commit murder" but it does not refer to suicide.
All of us have violated most of the Ten Commandments, to suggest that breaking one will send you to hell indicates that the person teaching that does not know God or understand why Jesus died on the cross.
Jesus died on the cross for our sins.
If we have asked Jesus for forgive our sins they are forgiven and that includes the ones which occured in the final minutes of our life.
Most sucides are the result of mental illness or some over eager shrink prescribing mind altering drugs.
Most of the rest are the result of an enourmous amount of grief which could hit any of us with out notice.
For example a Godly Pastor learns his wife has been having an affair, he's so shocked at the news, he ends his own life.
One of the mothers of a victim of the Columbine High School shootings, took her life as the result.
She was so overloaded with grief she couldn't deal with it.
In those cases the question is this:
"Was that person a Christian before they died?"
If yes, they are in heaven, and if not . . . "
In each case only God knows for sure and its terribly cruel for a preacher to tell a family, "your loved one is in hell because . . . ".
Pastor Art
PS: It would never be God's will for anyone to take their own life.

we don't always know the full story..
My wife's father was taking a medication that was very strong for a nervous condition and the doctor didn't warn them to be careful. He took his life while taking this medication and he was a born again Christian..
Are you capable of judging where he is?? I am not..
There may be some that think they are, and I know that a christian in his right mind would not take his life, but suicide is when someone sees no other alternative in their life..
