The traditional weather pattern for the first half of June in Los Angeles is overcast mornings, clearing to sunny / partially sunny afternoons. (We call it "June Gloom").
Leave your wool outfits in England. You will be comfortable in the shorts, tops, and summer dresses you mentioned. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the occasional slightly chilly late evenings. You might bring one "dressy" dress should you attend a more formal occasion. (by all means, DON'T dress like "Kristy Allsop"). May I suggest that a day or two before your departure you log on to any of the weather on line websites and get a long range forecast of the temperatures for the Los Angeles area. That will help you determine exactly what you should / should not bring.
Welcome to "the States", and enjoy your time here.

It's been a great spring here in Northern California, this year. I assume LA will be the same. Been warm since February, with off and on showers and cooler temperatures from time to time. This w'end's been in the 90s degrees F (33 Celcius).
You will need long sleeve and jackets for winter time starting around end of Oct thru January. Or late evenings here may need a light sweater, depending on individuals. Overall, very mild weather.

Really it depends. For April we had really strange weather, cold and cloudy which is not the norm for us, it is usually in the 80's in April. Now today it was 81 by 9:30 am. June is usually when we get rain they call it June gloom, but the way things are going I really dont know what the weather will be like. I would bring some of both types of clothes just to be on the safe side

I live in LA, so I can tell you that any sort of short sleeved dresses, t-shirts, jeans, and tank tops can work in both LA and London.
I highly doubt you need any long sleeved shirts though a light jacket will be necessary. Its been very hot here lately.
