A small handful date back more than a few decades, such as Louisiana (1811) and Nebraska (1920), most official language statutes were passed since the 1970's.

Legislation should be required - English is the language of this Country, however, if it takes a law to make people learn English, and more importantly their children to learn it - I'm all for it.
How many Senators and Congressmen don't speak English?

no longer a foul concept. It removes a desire government duplication of centers and ingredients. i could relatively be for it in public practise. a toddler stepping into the college equipment could bypass first by an English course in the event that they did no longer communicate fluent English. as quickly as by then that they had be waiting for a common practise. in the event that they finally end up a a million/2 a 365 days or 365 days at the back of their friends, so what? They be waiting to study with out a "separate yet equivalent" environment (all of us comprehend how nicely that works) and that they (and their eventual young little ones) could have get admission to to each and all of the opportunities English supplies you fairly of being trapped in a bubble of hispanic constrained opportunities.

It already is the official language. Doesn't mean people speak it and it doesn't help that we have a major "sanctuary city" close by. There's towns here where everything is in Spanish and you can't find anyone who'll speak English to you if you need help. Good luck at certain fast food joints asking for syrup or ketchup.....they don't speak English. I don't care if they want to hire people who know other languages....but by God atleast be able to speak English! These are jobs dealing with the public and English is our official language. How about catering to homegrown Americans for a change?

Yes. I don't think Americans should have to speak a foreign language in order to get a job. It's the foreign nationals who need to learn English, not the other way around.
Americans can't learn 50 different languages in order to appease everyone who enters the U.S.
English should be the official common language.

Enough with the pandering.

English SHOULD be the Official Language and not us re-assemilating to speak their language. Americans should not be discriminated against for not speaking a foreign language! Yes I would support it and would also support legislation that would not allow them to drive if they cannot comprehend, read or write English.

The Terminator in California, even supports it though English is his second language.

Absolutely! Sign me up. I'd also demand that the English language be learned and spoken by the so-called English speaking people who try to create their own versions of English, too!
