No, satan and the demons cannot read any of your thoughts, deep or otherwise. The rebellious creature still has ALL of his angelic abilities. However, angels cannot read our thoughts.
Now, here in-lies the problem, because it seems they can.
Okay, we are all born with demons because we have all sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. Now even when we come to Jesus, those demons do not leave just because Jesus is there. That is when they run and hide. Then, the person must go through the process od deliverance. Which was actually about 1/3 of Jesus' ministry on earth.
So these demons have been inside since birth, and know all of our histories. They have been strategically using this knowledge to make "informed" guesses as to what you are thinking in any given situation.
So much for the thought reading, any other questions about it send me a email.
Now to the power. Satans greatest lie was to convince the world that he doesn't exist. Second greatest is that he has no power or that he is a cartoon character. (Red suit and Tail) But answer this, if he had no power why so many who follow him.
But satan likes to see people troubled, so he will give them power to do things. Then when the person needs the power the most, satan takes it from them and leaves the people vulnerable.
Hope this helped you, let me know is you have other questions I might be able to help you with.

God is omnicient, the devil is not. So the way the devil knows about people is through the information gained by his army of demons. A lot of the information is just gained using NLP type skills, assumptions, pattern matching, and experience. The devil has observed people as long as there were people, so learning someone's nature and the types of thoughts a person may have is not too hard. He knows all the archetypes, stereotypes, and profiles. I don't think he knows the exact thoughts or the innermost ones, except for the ones he puts there.

That is the thing. One of Satan's ploys is to get others to believe his thoughts are their own thoughts. Obviously he'd know when someone is thinking those types of thoughts. All he has to do is observe someone for their weaknesses and then plant thoughts that match the weakness. If someone is coming out of an AA meeting, the devil might tempt them to take a drink. If a person is observed by the devil as being proud and quick-tempered, all the devil has to do is provoke someone else to hurt their pride. If someone loves their family a lot, all Satan has to do is cause them to worry that something has happened to them.

Of course, the weaknesses of strong people are the most prized for the devil. He wants leaders and representatives of God to fall and take others with them. What if the devil plants the idea into a closeted whatever's mind to go to a conservative Bible college and become a minister? He may back off tempting the person in their area of weakness until after he has helped build the person up to a prominent position. Then he starts hitting full force with the person's area of weakness, as well the attitude of arrogance, then sets up the person for a fall.

So it is not so much a matter of reading thoughts as it is imposing thoughts.

Very good question. I've read and heard reasons for both yes and no. Personally i dont think he can read our thoughts whenever he wants he has to ask permission from God because scripture tells us that only God knows our hearts more than we ever know. From this we could reason that no the Devil or his demons cant read our thoughts. They can however influence them and maybe put some into our mind. Mind control is very real but if you keep your mind on the word of God and pray its difficult for you to be deceived. But we still should be protecting our mind because scripture also says that the deception in the last days would be great.

Dear Dave777,

The devil is powerful but not ALL-powerful. Only God is all-powerful and able to read your deepest thoughts.

Satan can tell a whole lot by our actions however.

For God's glory,

Knowing someone's thoughts is reserved for the Lord only. But the devil and the demons have been around a long time and can anticipate what people are going to do, so it may appear as mind reading.

No, the only way a demon would be able to read your thoughts was if it had possession over your body. The devil cannot read your thoughts, but he definitely likes to make you think about different things to distract you...especially during prayer. Every notice that sometimes it seems impossible to pray...your mind keeps getting side tracked and you have to stop several times...that's because he is being an interferance. He hates prayer.

think about this... the devil(and demons) have been around for a very long time. they have been here far more years than you or i have been on this earth. throughout time , how many people do you think have gone through hard time because of choices and/or influence from the devil and his demons. they (demons and devil) have memorized the human character, how people respond under different circumstances. they can't read your mind but they can make a guess on what you are going to do. they have as much power as you give them. these beings can't suck the power out of things and they are not your usual super villans (no muscels or x-ray vision) . if you are afraid of them that gives them power to control your feelings. if you show authority to them they can't do anything to hurt you. so just think about that.

What happens is they will send a thought and see how you react. And either say "Hm-mm,that didn't work"..or else notice a reaction and then they will pour it on.
Martin Luther said "I am not responsible for the birds that fly around my head ,but I am for the ones I let nest in my hair."
Get it. They are clever ,but as James says "Resist the Devil and he will flee from you."
How long you need to resist ? I don't know.
Jesus was speaking and He said "I have much to tell you but the Prince of this World is coming and I have nothing in him".
In other words ,Satan can't read minds but Jesus didn't want to say anything he would hear.
But just remember ,there's enough of our 'Adamic' nature in us to make you think the devil's tempting us.Don't blame him for your sinful nature and thoughts, you'll know if it's him not you.It will be strong.Especially the newer Christian you are.He will want you to think you're not worthy."Look what you just thought/or did.A real Christian wouldn't do that!" You just say "Hey,Jesus saves me by grace ,through faith ,not by any stupid works or good deeds.Otherwise I could brag but not about God's gift. Can't earn a gift."(Ephesians 2 :8 & 9 )

Scriptures tell us that we wrestle not with flesh and blood bu with spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenlies.

You can open your self up to these forces by your attraction to the occult. Things like palm reading, Ouija boards, mediums, astrology, tarot cards and the likes.

Demonic forces can are invisible but capable of manifestations that assume hideous and fearsome forms like animals, they have great intelligence, and have supernatural insight into the identity of Christ as the Son of God (Mk 1:14, 34). They cleverly deceived men by withholding information necessary for salvation, and they know how to corrupt sound doctrine. They promote self-destruction in their victims, and can produce deceptive miracles because they can interfere in the laws of nature. They promote idolatry, rebellion, slander, and false religions and cults.

The know how to distinguish between a believer and a non-believer (Rev. 9:4), and they evidently have some knowledge of future or hiding things (Ac 16:16). For the believer, they create divisions (doctrinal divisions) and seek to hinder the gospel (2 Th 2:17-18) and this can promote misunderstandings. They promote Satan's program.

They can influence your thoughts, that is why we must use the Word of God to stop the fiery darts in our thought-life which is where the battle really is.

But their knowledge is limited and their plans will be overthrown by God.

The Bible gives us no reason to believe Satan and his demons can read our minds. To me, that would take a measure of omnipresence and omniscience, which they do not have. However, Satan and his demons have been observing and tempting human beings for thousands of years. Surely they have learned a few things about us over the years. Even without the ability to know our thoughts, they can probably make a well-educated guess as to what we are thinking – and then attempt to use it to their advantage. That is why we are commanded to “Submit yourselves, then, to God” (James 4:7a), before we are told to “Resist the devil” (James 4:7b).
