Best thing to do is find out what they are into. Ask their parents for advice. They will be able to tell you what they like.

Well lets see. A nine year old birhtday can have a theme of Harry Potter, Spongebob, Fantastic Four, Batman, Spiderman, etc. One of those cartoon themes sounds fun. Then for entertainment, usually pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, relay race, and my favorite egg toss. Make sure to have like a dollar store gift for the kids that win those events. For foods you can have organic chips, or just plain potatoe chips. Can also have some vegetables with ranch (brocolli, cellery, carrots, etc). And for return gifts you can have bags filled with candy and little toys that youc an buy at the dollar store or you can give the kids bags and have a pinata and let the kids fill up their own return gifts with candy from the pinata. Hope this helps

My son will be eight next month and he and all his friends are really into Teenage mutant ninja turtle. I would get then each a different turtles so they can play together. Each figure goes for about $7-9, so you can buy all four turtles. If they aren't into them, the boys all seem to like Spiderman and Pokemon. Oh, they also like Star Wars. Your best bet is to ask the parents what they already have. Good luck!

Go to your local Army-Navy surplus store. They have a lot of cool stuff for boys that age. A compass, helmets, and camo wear are popular. If you don't like that idea, anything that stimulates the imagination and involves outdoor play is a good idea. Cowboys and indians, pirates, and cops and robbers are all games 8 year-old boys enjoy.
They also like board games like Chinese Checkers, "Clue", Parcheesi ("Sorry"), or "Trivial Pursuit" for kids.

How about a baseball and a bat? Those are fun!
Or a kid's fishing rod? Lots of kids like fishing.
Or how about a $20 Savings Bond? That would be great for the future!

My son likes it when people get him one or two dollar store toys, then a gift card for WalMart. He loves being able to go to WalMart and pick out a toy he wants, and then he gets to "Pay" the cashier himself. He is only 5, and he really likes the independance of it all.
