It seems like an oxymoron to me. I'm not trying to feed the fire, so to speak, I am really just genuinly curious. Please answer in a kind and mature manner. I think your answers will help us Christians/Religious people understand where you are coming from and why you answer the way you do.
Thank you, in advance, for respectful answers

why are most of you so defensive about a little question? It's a question. I didn't say you didn't deserve to be in this category -- just wondering why you would want to except for what one person said, "to piss you off". Well, I'm not pissed off. Just feel sorry for you.

I consider myself Atheist/Agnostic just depends on how i feel that day........ BUT I know that I answer questions because if someone is asking a question they are looking for opinions and viewpoints and might as well get mine in there as well :)

At the least I always try to answer respectfully to these questions because I do not have a problem with people who believe in God or Allah, or any other deity for that matter..... All in all they may be real but I just choose not to believe in him, or her, or it, or whatever depending on the religion. I totally respect religion as it gives a lot of people happiness and hope and I guess thats a good thing although it never did so for me..... I have no desire to change or convert or dis anyone - i just like to keep everyone open minded and willing to consider new ideas :)

Plus new questions show in the general answers - we don't go to the religion section looking for them

Because this is where people can comment on religion. You don't have to believe in a particular religion to have a personal opinion on it. Most atheists were raised in some religion. And just because you do not believe in a religion does not mean you are not spiritual. There are religions that do not embrace a god of any kind. And there are atheists on here who have gone to seminary. Although I am atheist, I studied textural criticism for many years which is the scholarly examination of the Bible. And if you look in the archives, this question has been asked on this forum more than 2,000 times.

*** DRINK *** Are you new right here? This is likely one of the so much more commonly requested and dull sick-trained inquiries to be determined on Y!A. a million. The opinion that god does now not exist is an issue of faith. two. Where do you advise that the lifestyles of god be mentioned? Flower Arranging? Pets?? Car Maintenance??? three. Why are there folks within the "Cats" Section? By your reasoning it must handiest be open to cats. Similarly, I can maintain an opinion on cats with out both being one or proudly owning one. four. This phase is referred to as "Religion and Spirituality". It is viable to be atheist and but be non secular - for instance, Buddhists are non secular but don't feel in a god. five. Obviously "yall" is the person who's misplaced - natural feel, schooling and an capacity to assemble sentences utilizing correct phrases have all by hook or by crook handed you through.

I may not have any belief in any god, but I'm surrounded by those who do, and some of them have got it into their heads that there must be something wrong / bad / evil about people like me and Something Must Be Done about it.

Have you been following the news lately? -- there's a story from Iraqi Kurdistan about a 17-year-old girl who was dragged into the street and beaten to death. Apparently she was in love with a boy from another tribe, or another sect, or some such thing; and apparently the local cops stood around and did nothing.

Watch the American news channels: There'll be damn little about this story, and the Believer-in-Chief will have nothing to say about it. Remember, his imaginary friend told him to invade Iraq, therefore it was A Good Thing.

I could cite many more examples of why religion is dangerous; you would disagree, and you'd feel hurt and angry because how dare I attack your faith, the bedrock of your life, when I know nothing about you or your sweet savior, yadda yadda.

You see how far apart we are on this?

It will take a lot of conversation to start bringing us together. I do not intend to be silent.

For several reasons. One big reason is that it seems to me that most Christians in the U.S. seem to only here what atheists are like from other Christians, and that the result is that much of what Christians here about atheists is just propaganda. There is other harmful propaganda echoing in Christian communities (especially the conservative fundamentalist ones), such as the claim that Evolution is not fact. Finally, take a look at how many questions are directly addressed to atheists. There is clearly curiosity about us. Better that we answer than non-atheists.

I am agnostic, so I almost "qualify." I guess for me, I hate thinking that people are so closed minded that they aren't even willing to consider what someone else has to say. That goes for religious/spiritual people as well as for those who don't. Plus some religions just brain-wash people, and someone of us come here to keep things fair. Ie certain churches don't want potential converts knowing certain things about what they believe until they have suckered them into it so far that the person feels like they are stuck. It is because somebody didn't mind their own business that I left the LDS church 3 years ago, and I am so glad that they did, and hopefully I can return the favor to someone else.

Because atheists are very defensive. Christians like myself don't answer a question unless our help is needed because we don't usually need to prove anything, but I thought I could help out here. Atheists on the other hand know their wrong. They may say they don't believe in God, and they may even think they don't, but in the end, they always have a little voice in the back of their mind that says, "WAIT! That doesn't make sense," so they have to say things to christians to reassure themselves of their beliefs.

I have a religion so Why does it matter if i have a god or not???

Just so you know this says "Religion& Spirituality" Not Chrsitians&God blievers.

And this is an Open forum, atheists are allowed to come here and post their points of view.

I've studied religions for years, along with all of the other subjects that got me to where I'm at; science, philosophy, logic, etc. and so forth, so I mildly qualified to answer a few questions even though I believe the concept of an omnipotent creator being is illogical.

well,.......... when a religion, philosophy, ideal or whatever, is promoted to all and sundry, as the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,....... people will then set aside time and effort to persue, consider, and explore it.

However,....... after having spent a considerable amount of time with it, (religion the bible etc)........ only to find chapter after chapter, filled with the ridiculous, the absurd, the silly, and the downright nonsensical,..... people are then inclined to comment about it, on forums such as Y.A. (R.&S.)

It doesnt matter whether your'e promoting a holiday resort, a car, a vacuum cleaner, or a philosophy.
If people find out, they've been sold a dud or a turkey,..... you can rest assured,...... they will return to express their views on the matter........ (EXAMPLES.)

a)....... raising the dead.
b)....... touching and healing the blind.
c)....... waving your arms to part the 7 seas.
d)....... noah delivering dinosaurs and polar bears by boat.
e)....... going to the beach and walking on water.

I mean selling this sort of stuff to inexperienced children,....... sure,......you can get away with that,....... but attempting the same with adults, will understandably,....... simply make them cranky.
