At a party when there is 7up and sherbet scoops in a punch bowl are you supposed to take some of the sherbet or is it just there to keep it cold and add flavor to the 7up as it melts?

Everybody takes the sherbert, so i would say that you're supposed to plus i don't know about you but i like ice cream better than 7up anyway.

Anything that is in the bowl with the punch that is edible such as ice, fruit, and sherbet, is there for your to take and enjoy!

Yes you can take the sherbet. It is better before it is all melted.

It is there to add flavor, but I don't think it's a no-no to take a little because I inevitably end up with some in my glass when it's served to me. I think it makes it even better.
