Sorry, minors cannot apprentice and really cannot be in most studios. In Illinois you cannot step into the studio if you are under 18 unless your parent is with you and that is only to watch them get a tattoo - they can't sign for one.

Keep up with your art, build a strong portfolio - spend lots of time on websites, etc. Get a job in an art store - we love it when we know people who get discounts!!

Great question! I'm in your same shoes. I'm 17 and am currently trying to apprentice.

It depends state by state. I live in North Carolina, and the laws here allow minors to apprentice, just not to receive any tattoos. In some states you have to be the same age in order to apprentice as you would be to get a tattoo. In some states (but not many) the laws go individualy by city. The best thing to do is to find the official website of your states laws and read the section about tattooing. It's a lot of reading, but the info you need will be in there somewhere. If you still can't find out, go into your local studio and ask them.

Apprenticeships are few and far between (I'm personally having a hard time finding one). Most artists prefer to take in long time loyal cutomers as apprentices. It's even harder for us since we can't become cutomers yet. If it's something you're really interested in stick with it.

My email is my h_n_b_cow@yahoo.com (duh)
To be honest I'd like to see if you find an apprenticeship since we're in the same situation here. So email me if you want to know anything else. Good luck!

Just because you are good at drawing doesnt mean you would be good at tattooing, a human canvas is totally different. Why dont you go to a few shops and see if they need an apprentice, you need to get your foot in the door and learn the trade b4 you start tattooing people

You could be an apprentice, or an artist for customers, or do the random sketches that you always see on the walls. There's really not much that you can do as far as actual inking, because there would be law suits up the a$$.

come across a momentary tattoo which you like and then purchase quite a few. they're extra lifelike than utilising a sharpie or henna tatts. After quite a few days, use rubbing alcohol, get rid of the previous one, and keep on with a sparkling one in the precise spot.
