Well, for over 3 years, my jaw hasnt been normal. Sometimes, it gets a little stiff, and hard to move..so i have to move it, even though it hurts, up and down until it makes a cracking sound, so i can actually move it normally again. Also, it hurts. Not a lot, but I can still feel the pain..and about 85% of the time its hurting. I'd say the pain is a 3, maybe 4 on scale of 1-10. Anyways...I can only open my mouth a little, because if I open it too much, I feel pain.. I can only open it about an inch, maybe less. And also, it hurts whenever i chew. Even if its just mashed potatoes, it still hurts. Also, I should mention, its only on the right side of my jaw. So I have to eat with the left side of my mouth..but it still hurts to chew. Should I get this checked out? Does anybody know what could be wrong with it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You could have what I have...Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ). The condile bone likes to sometimes slip out of socket (your jaw bone by your ear), and sometimes the muscles can be strained due to stress. Do you find yourself clenching due to stress? like it is hard to open your mouth ....? I would get this checked out. You could be doing damage in the long run to where it could affect you for the rest of your life.....I'm sure you want to chew, even if its mashed potatoes!!!....

They have mouth guards to help stop clenching (tightens muscles of the jaw)

I dont use a guard, I deal with it because I also have a shoulder problem and that's more problematic than my jaw so.

Be VERY careful and feel better! Definitely go to a doctor about this. ...Oral surgeon possibly.

Sounds like you may be having a problem with a joint in your jaw. There are "TMJ" disorders that have many of the symptoms you describe. You probably should see your doctor (or dentist maybe) but the link I placed below may help for right now. Maybe a doctor could help this problem not be so aggravating for you.

Sounds like TMJ to me. See your dentist, and ask if you need to see an orthodontist. Sometimes people need surgery, sometimes braces, sometimes simpler solutions.
See the dentist. It won't go away by itself.

I dont know any disease about jaws. I just need one question answer from you. Did you ever have braces? Because your symptoms resembles that of the effects from the use of braces.
