okay so from 8.30 to 11.30 two days a week this summer i have to babysit a girl going into first grade this coming fall. she is a total girly girl and im kinda not. well i can have my girly moments but im not really like that. i need the money and i cant get out of it because she's so sweet and she asked her parents if i could be the one to babysit her. i have no idea what to do with her because i dont want her to be entirely bored but i dont want to spend too much money getting games for her and stuff. she loves cheerleading and such...
do you have any ideas on what we could do?
thanks!

Big chalk is fun to draw in the street and on the sidewalk. It's cheap to buy, but you could ask her Mom to reimburse you. Tell her you want to buy a few things that are not expensive, but would be fun and cheap entertainment.
Sit down and begin with a first line for a poem that rhymes, have her add to it, making sure it rhymes, keep on going and pretty soon you have a complete poem.
Read stories to her.
Buy hoola hoops and have a contest who can go the longest. Buy some inexpensive fabric paints and find an old tee shirt to decorate, let her be free.
Play dress up and put on a play. Make your own adaption of a play by taking a story, like Little Red Riding Hood. Have other kids join in, dress the parts, and take several days to put the play together, practice the play for a couple of days, then present it to the parents when they come home. Tack up an old sheet across a room. This makes the stage and the audience spaces.
Make finger puppets from construction paper, tape on fingers and make a play with them. Let her imagination run wild.
Play pirates, make a tree or rock the ship and interact, showing her how to be creative and open to imagination. Take walks to the park if nearby.
Play hide and go seek in the house (which is harder to think of places) and outside, just don't lose her.
Make a hopscotch drawing with the big chalk and find some special stones, (paint the stones) and tell her that they are special for your special hopscotch only.
Make playdough. There are recipes on the internet for making your own play dough. After you make it, make sure you keep it in a ziploc storage bag away from air. Use cookie cutters, or make your own creatures and make a Creature Village. You can use different food dyes to make batches of the color spectrum. Make a fort in the living room with blankets and chairs. Have lunch in the fort and tell stories, take flashlights into the fort.
Here is the recipe for home-made playdough:
Home Made Playdough, (non-eatable playdough)
1 cup flour
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of salt
2 tablespoons Cream of Tarter
1 tablespoon of Oil
Add food coloring then knead
Stir together these ingredients in a saucepan over medium to low heat until it forms a ball. Take it out of pan and knead it for several minutes, this will disperse the color of the dye as well. Store new playdough in the fridge in ziploc bag or in an airtight container. This is non-eatable playdough.

If you are babysitting at her house she will have games I'm sure. Girls love to use their imagination. You can pack a picnic, eat it in the back yard and imagine you are in the tropical rain forest. Look up animals that live there together and draw some pictures and have her practice copying the names. Then you can pretend to walk around the yard and hunt for said animals. Take her to the park, pool, movies, library and read to her. She will probably tell you exactly what she would like to do.

Take a look at the website below and familiarize yourself with cheerleading a little bit. You can use a lot of the basic skills for games like Simon Says. Twister is another good one since it will help with her flexibility.

Before the babysitting adventure actually starts, you should talk with her parents. Ask them to pack a bag of things that she enjoys doing. Sidewalk chalk, 4 square, hopscotch, coloring, jump rope, walks, flower picking...all of these things can keep a 6 year old pretty entertained. Good luck to you!

Play barbies, or make up a little cheerleading routine with her. There are lots of things you can do with a first grader.
4-5 years old
Games:
Puppets, costumes, masks, play dishes, crayons and paper, arts and crafts, moves, dress-up, 1-spy, playing store, tricycles, wagons, skipping ropes, hula-hoops, roller skating, Barbie’s, toy trucks, and movies.
