What does it mean?

Well someone called it that the other day and i asked 'why', and his reaction was 'the only way you can really see them properly is if a girl has her pants around her ankles and is bent over'. I was a bit shocked but i could see the funny side of his statement. I always thought it was because to show it off, you would have to be wearing some low hipster pants and a high cut top, exposing a bit of midriff, well thats the only way i can show mine off completely, hence 'tramp' for flashing the flesh and 'stamp' for the tattoo.

I hate this saying. I have one and I am a married woman. It is called a "tramp stamp" because the lower back tattoos were really big in the late 90's on young women that spent a lot of time on the beach showing a lot of skin. Having one doesn't change you as a person. The point of a tattoo is that you shouldn't care what people think about it, so don't worry about your husband being afraid it will make you look like a tramp. Tattoos are a form of art, and the back is a canvas for it.

A group of my friends and I went on vacation together and got tattoos on our lower backs. We've been calling them "Tramp Stamps" since we first saw them. Even though we have them ourselves, we still call them "Tramp Stamps".

It's just a quirky fun little thing to call something. Tramp Stamp has no real meaning, unless it's said by a person who deems anyone with a tattoo to be trash. There are a lot of those out there.

It doesn't mean that the girls who have them are sluts or tramps.

HAHA!!!@ the Doggy Style comment. My friends and I talked about that too. My best friend's boyfriend told her that after he saw hers. It was more like, "Now I have something to look at other than the back of your head."

And there a lot of women who have them there who aren't tramps, and there are a lot of women who are tramps and don't have a tattoo....
People who don't like tattoos judge those with them no matter what. They like to place labels. If you are asking this question because you are considering getting a tattoo there, then I would say, just make sure what other people think doesn't matter to you.
I'm 39, married 20 years and have a lower back piece. Only opinion that matters to me is my husbands.

some people call it a tramp stamp because they are dumb and think that girls get it just to wear small shirts and low pants to show it off...
i personally like tattoo's on the lower back...i think tattoo's are beautiful and that the ones on the lower back are very cute... tattoo's are a form of expression and art... my hubby and i are both pierced and tattooed

You should look at the answers people recieved who
asked this question already. The sterotype is not true... many different types of women have a lower back tattoo including me a 27 year old wife and mother of three.
I got my tattoo two years ago.. a heart with my husbands name in it. Yes I thought about if we ever get a divorce, and he is still the father of my three boys, and my first husband.

In my experience, it's called that because though tatoos are gorgeous, the ones on the lower back is attracting the eyes to a part of the body that is usually covered. Most women wear barely there outfits to show it. I think it's sexy. I think it's funny when most of my friends say that the "Tramp Stamp" is like reading material for the guy while doing it doggy style.

What? Everyone was thinking it. I just said it.. Dang!!

I have a tat on my lower back i got it about a yr ago..i heard what everyone was calling girls with tattoo's on the lower back but i had wanted one for years so i didn't care what others think.
I think people who think like that are ignorant a**holes who have nothing better to do but put down others..not to be nasty but if girls wanna be a sl*t they can be a sl*t doesn't mean most girls having a tattoo in a place they like are slutty or trashy...its just a trend and not only do "sluts" follow trends but descent people do also. So people need to stop judging others before knowing them.
