I just adopted a stray papillion from my vet's office. He wasn't trained at all, including potty training. He has been a little difficult to potty train but he seems to be catching on. My papillion is probably just under a year old and still acts like a puppy in many ways, including chewing. Make sure you have lots of hard chew toys and bones for her and brush her daily if you can. Go to a pet store and ask for a good brush for papillions. They can be territorial so always have her on a leash when you introduce her to new people. That includes inside and outside your home. She will also need to be walked daily and need plenty of play time. If this dog has not had training, get a book about training puppies/dogs or try training classes. These dogs are VERY smart and should catch on quickly. My papillion has shown aggression toward some grown men so we are trying to train him not to be aggressive and territorial. I think he was abused before we got him. Training takes time and patience. Good luck!

(All dogs are the same species, papillon is a breed of that species.)
I love paps! (And I own one.) They are very intelligent dogs (sometimes too much so for their own good). They are in the top 10 most intelligent dog breeds. http://petrix.com/dogint/1-10.html And also noted as one of the most trainable of the toy breeds. http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/papillons.html
Papillons have very friendly, adventerous temperments. From the AKC breed description, "Happy, alert and friendly. Neither shy nor aggressive." http://www.akc.org/breeds/papillon/ Also, if you want to get into agility, papillons are excellent agility dogs.
Great looks, great temperament, great personalities, definitely a great breed of dog. :D (Although I may be just a little bit biased!)

Papillons are supposed to be very sweet companion dogs. If you got one for $20 then you got a great bargain. Hopefully she is a nice dog.

Keep in mind, Long-haired Chihuahuas can often have the appearance of a Papillon.
Either way, here is basic information on the Papillon breed, that any owner should know:

I personally adore this breed, although I wouldn't own one (I'm more for bigger dogs.)

I had a papillon, that I inherited from my mom who inherited him from my brother. He was a cutie pie, and very friendly. Unfortunately, he was about 8 when I got him, and he liked to travel around the neighborhood. I couldn't just let him out to potty like I can my bichon. Anyway, he got hit by a car. Sad I know. But he was pretty independent.

I think they are really cute, they also have a much nicer temperament than other toy dog breeds. If she's a purebreed then $20 was a bargain!

Like all dogs it depends on how you treat them. Watch them around smaller kids because they could hurt it and it might nip if they hurt it. But other than that they are great dogs.

Omg if you are for real then you got that dog for nothing cause they cost around 2200.00 where i live but they also have alot of problems health wise like von wildebrands disease which is a blood borne disease and they also have luxating patella alot . so you have to be carefull where you get them from. I wish you luck . I like chihuahuas myself .

if you buy a dog, and then decide to just "get rid of it" because you dont like it thats horrible. at least find it a real loving home where someone will actually like it! and you shouldnt buy a dog and then just decide oh just kidding lets get rid of it!
