Sex is not a sin. It is meant to be an act of love between husband and wife.

First of all you are generalizing by saying just Christians which makes people think you think all Christians think that way. Not true. Sex is a gift from God to men and women.

So are grapes for making wine, and food for eating and so forth and so on. Sex itself is not a sin. It is like anything else. There are certain Biblical guidelines. Don't drink so much wine you get drunk. Don't be gluttonous. And save sex for marriage. The Bible speaks of fornication(sex outside of marriage) and adultry(sex between a married person with another person they are not married to) as being what you would call sins of the body.

But kept in proper context, sex is a wonderful thing but does not make up the whole of a relationship.

Sex is not a sin. Having sex outside marriage is fornication and is a sin.
Think about it. Sex within a marriage is contained, causes pleasure, closeness, intimacy and trust. (yeah I know there are many marriages that don't work that way, I'm just making a point about what marriage is intended to be) :)
Sex outside of marriage causes hurt feelings, mistrust, desire, lust, pride, jealousy, anger and all sorts of other nasty things....
Don't believe me? Ask all the people you know who have had or are having sex outside of marriage how their relationships worked out.

blessings :)

edit: per your additional details: Some denominations &/or religions have their reasons for claiming that holy men &/or women must remain celebate. Mostly because they feel that being married &/or having sex would be a distraction for their calling.
I can't speak for most belief systems, but in Christianity, the bible does not frown on sex, only sex in the context of what I listed above.

blessings and peace

So where exactly is it written that sex is a sin? Not in any scripture I have read.

Now you may have confused the prohibition against fornication which is “sexual relations between two consenting adults, who are not married to each other” or adultery; “voluntary sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his or her spouse” with sex being a sin. Those are the only two situations in which sex becomes sin.

Sex, within marriage, is not a sin. Sex outside of marriage is a sin. God knows the consequences of sexual intercourse outside of marriage, this is why He is opposed to it.
Stop and think about all the resources we spend now on cleaning up after those who defy Gods wisdom. Lets start with teenage pregnancy, how much does the Government spend on this epidemic? Hundreds of millions of dollars annually. Now lets talk about abortion, how much does the Government spend for abortion, including sex education in schools?
Billions annually. Now lets calculate how much hospitals spend and insurance companies spend to clean up this rampant sin, how much do we spend annually on extra jails and correction and police officers, social services..etc. etc. etc. As you can see, sexual promiscuity costs very many dollars for everyone, and the human emotional toll is astronomical as well. There is much pain and suffering involved in this particular sin and the consequences are far reaching. This example does not even include the health related issue you mentioned, the results of AIDS, Herpes and all other sexually transmitted disease. Think of the money we spend on those things. And the loss of human life because of immoral sexuality.
God Bless You...Peace.

I think this applies to if it is out of wedlock for the Christians. Also sex becomes a negative thing when the couple involved are not ready to bear the consequences of unwanted pregnancy... imagine if this happened to two 14 year olds.... or two full grown adults but both are married... I don't know about sinful, I just think cheating on a spouse is just not very nice :)

From a non-christian point of view, I do not think is wrong or bad nor sinful... if no one gets hurt ( physically, Mentally or emotionally ) parties involved are consenting and level headed to know and accept the responsibility that COULD come with it and of course be SAFE and not sorry :)

Have you never read Songs of Solomon? Old Testament.

Heck within a marriage that is one of the best things! That is a level of intimacy a married couple can achieve....WOW!

Who ever said it was a sin? It is a blessing and a gift!

They consider it a sin outside of monogamous marriage between a man and a woman. In short, almost everybody has gone against this at one time or another.

Some Catholics even consider it a sin to use contraception.

I support the endeavor to keep our bedrooms out of government's business, and free from religious annoyances.

having and enjoying sex is not a sin.

the idea would be not to have sex before mariage. why?
f**cking around gives bad habits . difficult to remain faithfull ! therefore it harms. and it is a sin

drug use harms no-one but it is a sin against your body !!
you harm your body ... not the first shots ... the firsts are great and you make paine to no one ... but ... 20 shots ater it becomes different !! you sin against your body !

homosexuals harm the society, while they harm no-one, the race forgoes the opportunity to use the potential in sperma for descendants ...
they sin against the race !!!

GOD wants healthy and good people ... his people so these previous things go against his rules, going agains the rules ofg GOD is sining

that is the idea ... but read the bible ... you would be surprised about all wrong concepts that are diceminated in the population. and what i said is inferred by me !! it is not written in the bible ... i undersand it like that.
