This cross referense should help you match the serial number to the rouht year it was produced. Most firearm manufacturers are listed.

The manufacturer, if still in business, can supply the information. there usually is a fee that will be charged for that information. I have heard of fees as high a $100.00 but I am sure others are less with some being more. They will send a factory letter so you will have some verifiable provenance to the gun.If it is a very collectible gun, it will be worth it. Otherwise, it could cost you more than the gun is worth.

Contact the manufacturer with the info that you have. They can often tell you something about when it was sold and to whom. There is usually a charge for this service and it will vary depending upon the manufacturer.

Hi What kind of rifle or pistol have you got, only we know a fair bit about Webleys and old Bsa rifles.
