We are planning to get a puppy in 3 months (beginning of july) Now, at that time, we want the puppy to be the standard 8 weeks old. How can we find litters that haven't been born yet? Is there some kind of breeder organization we can contact to get a list of breeders? We want a female yellow lab. (not too large)

Go to the labrador club of america's website. You will find a listing of breeders, or contacts for breeder referral. Then you can find out about unborn and future litters by contacting a breeder.

Try the bred clubs through the AKC for a list of breeders. Though, many breeders do not consider 8weeks standard. 12, honey, 12weeks is standard these days. Besides, puppies pre-birth are like eggs, and you don't count chickens before they hatch, right?

BTW, breed club breeders may have a waiting list. You could try the breeder classifieds (also akc) in a month or two, but ask your questions first. Do they test for genetic issues? Have the parents titled in conformation (though I'm not sure why that's all that important if you want a pet...) Are they raised in the house? Go see the facilities to be sure everything is good.

Again, don't get your hopes up on an 8week old, and don't start looking until you're ready (or at least close) to bring the puppy home.

Many reputable breeders will take reserves before the puppies are born. www.infodog.com has a breeder referal list

why don't you just start looking when you are ready to take one home? And as for breeders, make sure they are reputable. To be honest, pound dogs are the best. They are loyal and appreciative of having a home and not living in a cement kennel. Besides, their are so many unwanted animals that deserve a good home...
