It's between you and God. No one can answer that for you. All you'll get is a bunch of opinions. Some will say it's fine. Others will disagree.
MY opinion is that it depends on the person. Some people can listen to that stuff, and remain close in their walk with God. Others can't.
My experience is that since I quit swearing, I don't have any desire to listen to music with gratuitous profanity. A word or two here and there is acceptable, but I don't like hearing strings of those words. But as I said, that's just me.
All I can tell you is to pray about it. Listen to what the Holy Spirit says, and OBEY, no matter what. Pray for discernment, and for wisdom. Then you won't have any doubts.

How is listening to music wrong?

If some guy sings about getting picked up by the police, does that mean that you will run outside and yourself incarcerated?

If you watch a movie where innocent people get murdered (ex: Pan's Labyrinth or Chronicles of Narnia) does that mean you will attack someone with a blunt weapon?

If you want to stop cursing, then do it. But don't blame the art. If you'd like to listen to different types of music, go right ahead. :-)

"The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself."

Great question. I am a devout Christian and I used to be big into heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Motley Crue and so on and recently I decided to go straight Christian and Gospel. Then I asked myself the question...What does God think about this? Well what does the Bible say?....Psalms 81:1-Sing aloud unto God...Psalms 95:1-O come, let us sing unot the Lord: let us make a joyful noice to the rock of our salvation...Ephesians 5:19-Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord...

and finally I would like to add this Philipians 4:23-Finally, brethern, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Garbage in...garbage out.

I know I'm probably seriously wrong on this, but if you don't take in any of the lyrics and you don't make that music your view on life, I think it's okay to listen to it. I think if oyu just listen to it because you like the music rather than because you live by the lyrics, it's okay. I'll probably get a lot of low ratings for this though.

they are so many good christian bands no matter the genre you like. why don't you check it out online, you'll be amazed how great they sound. i myself love the rock christian bands the most and rap but i stay away from secular,, it's my choice. don't really need the negativity of it all. i mean think about it if you're in prayer and that kind of music with cussing is in your thoughts doesn't it bother you.

No. Inspiration for music comes from all aspects of life. To limit music to christian music would be a huge waste. Listen to everything.

When you're tightening the valve cover nuts on your bike and the wrench slips and you scrape your knuckles on some piece of metal and the blood starts flowing pretty fast...you don't blaspheme because you're listening to music, you blaspheme because it's what you are, it's what you do, it's how *you* react to stress. There's plenty of secular music that doesn't blaspheme.

The Apostle Paul's thoughts are pretty clear.
No, it's not wrong. (sin)
But if music isn't building your relationship with Jesus, then it is slowly tearing it down.
Someone else other than Paul said this<
"Garbage in; garbage out" when it comes to our brains.

there isn't anyhing inherently wrong any particular style of music. but if secular music leads you to think about, or get involved in something that does not glorify God – then you should avoid it.
