I'm about to drop a bundle of joy and I know its a boy. My husband and I have decided on the name Callum Joseph. I wanted something Scottsh as I am from Scotland. We already have a son Aidan Thomas to keep in with his Irish connections (he is from Australia) and just wanted to know what people thought. Do the names go together?

I dont think they sound well together, tho both are nice names apart. callum, when followed by a 2 syllable name, does sound like a last name, and as if it should be Joseph Callum (it sounds like you are reading a list of names that says: Callum, Joseph); maybe if Callum were followed by a one syllable name? or even 3 syllables. but really, everyone will be calling your son Callum, so the way it matches with the 2nd name is not that crucial.

callum is very 'common' a lot of chavs have kids called callum, years ago it used to be very fashionable, like the name jade was for a long time, currently is Mercedes, fleur has been popular over the years, but for a boy - how about something else, Joseph is a very biblical name, im not putting you off it - but it you go to places in africa - your tour bus driver is usually called jesus, jospeh or soloman! Even in some hispanic culters, they have very biblical names. Why not go for soemthing more upmarket - like SAMUEL - a biblical name also, also the name of a boy who was given into service to the lord and became a priest unto the lord (Im not talking catholic here) one day the childs mother went into the temple to pray and begged the lord fo r a child - she was beside herself with grief, then she promised the lord, if you give me a child I will give him to you for service, from time to time he did see his mother and he was under the care of one of the profits (Elijah I think?).

Elijah is a very popular name these days - very fashionable after the actor elijah woods, surely the childs accent will stamp him with his identity for the rest of his life? How about the name Gabriel? or miles? Justin, orlando, ulysis? (although he'll get comment like is that becasue youve got a small will y) Joel is a nice name, id it were a girl I could give you some of my favourites like gabriella, poppy, fleur, petal, regina, celeste, Aurora, mercy/mercedes which is the same name (which means the great open plains)

I like it very much! We are going throught the dilema of naming our daughter who is due in October and we have came to decide that no matter how perfect the name is there are always going to be those debbie downers! Who cares what the rest world thinks as long as it is a name that you both like that is all that matters. The more people you ask the more your spirts are going to fade. Go with what you like!!!

My first thought was, that sounds very Scottish, so based on that I think you have what you want, and if they are the names you like and have chosen you should go for it. Everybody's tastes in names are different and it is surprising how we come to like names that we may have initially thought were not to our taste. Hope you have a good labour.

Tend to agree with the "common" comment, but then I'm a James, and that's not terribly uncommon now is it ? I'm thinking James Joseph ? Sounds kinda cool, bit like a politician's name.

So long as your last name is not one starting with D, or he'd share his initials with mad cow diesase.

If YOU like it, go for it, he's your kid.
