In Exodus 3:21 God tells the Israelites: "Ye shall not go empty."

Then he tells them to borrow valuables and clothing from their Egyptian neighbors, and give the stuff to their kids, just before leaving on their holy exodus; and God says "So ye shall rob the Egyptians."

Question: Why is God telling the Israelites, not only to rob the Egyptians, but to do so deceitfully?
Breaking at least one of the ten commandments that God should have known he was going to decree unto them?

Bonus question: Okay, church people, is this the god you worship?

That was before the Ten Commandments were given. And anyways, the Israelites needed that stuff from them. What do you think the Egyptians had been doing to them for the last 400 years of captivity? God promised to provide for the Israelites and He did.

OOOOOOOO Hello, the ten commandments were not given until AFTER the exodus from Egypt!

There are hundreds of inconsistencies. For example, AFTER giving the 10 commandments, when Joshua and the kids of Israel take Jericho, they are instructed to kill everyone but those in the house of Rehab the prostitute.

The two creation stories in Genesis do not match up.

The Old Testament is a collection of stories and literary forms. Although some do take them literally, they have not studied enough to realize that one cannot do that.

But, it is clear that you are trying to shake people's faith. They are where they are at any given moment. Are you the savior of the world who brings enlightenment through weak challenges in yahoo answers?

21. And I will put this people's favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, and it will come to pass that when you go, you will not go empty handed.
22. Each woman shall borrow from her neighbor and from the dweller in her house silver and gold objects and garments, and you shall put [them] on your sons and on your daughters, and you shall empty out Egypt."

G-d is not saying to steal from the Egyptians. G-d is saying that he will have some of the Egyptians favor the Israelites. When G-d says borrow, He actually means borrow. Not steal.

It doesn't say rob.

Exd 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: kjv

the Egyptians will be glad to give them their silver and gold and all their jewels; and their raiment and cattle and much more. They will leave Egypt with their just pay for the 400 years they were in bondage to Egypt.

Exd 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

spoil 5337 natsal naw-tsal' a primitive root; to snatch away, whether in a good or a bad sense:- X at all, defend, deliver (self), escape, X without fail, part, pluck, preserve, recover, rescue, rid, save, spoil, strip, X surely, take (out).

maximum (yet no longer all) of the Mosaic Covenant is conditional -- in different words, to make certain that the Jews to obtain God's chance-free practices and advantages, they had to be obedient to His regulations. you may want to note that God considers Israel to be His non secular spouse. as an get jointly, at Deut. 27, Moses became informed to inform the persons: "9 Then Moses and the clergymen, the Levites, spoke to all Israel, declaring, “Take heed and hear, O Israel: on the present time you've change into the persons of the LORD your God. 10 hence you shall obey the voice of the LORD your God, and word His commandments and His statutes which I command you at present.” in spite of the indisputable fact that, in Deut. 28, Moses is informed to inform the persons: "15 “in spite of the indisputable fact that it shall come to pass, in case you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to computer screen carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you at present, that a number of those curses will bump into you and overtake you:" in case you study each and every thing of Deut. 28 carefully, you'll discover God isn't taking area in round -- if the Jews are disobedient, they are going to be punished in various degrees of severity. This did ensue and God punished the Jews in cycles. even as they repented, He blessed them; even as they veered into idolatry, He punished them. finally, after many years of disobedience, God despatched the prophets Jeremiah and Hosea to Israel and Judea. The prophets informed Israel and Judea that God had formally divorced His "spouse," yet ought to remarry her if she stayed honest. in this era of time, the Jews were outdoors the covenant of chance-free practices God gave them. Had the Jews been in a acceptable relationship with God, the Holocaust under no circumstances ought to have occurred, because God ought to have blown Hitler off of the earth. (apparently, it really is because the Jews broke the Mosaic Covenant and were "divorced" that a clean Covenant, presented by Jesus Christ, became mandatory. See Jeremiah 31:31-33.) God also informed Jeremiah and Hosea that He intends to remarry Israel in the destiny. in case you imagine about it, the fashionable state of Israel (it really is the unified former Judea and Israel) ought to under no circumstances were reborn if WWI and WWII hadn't occurred. So apparently that God has used those negative events to bless the Jewish human beings.

God didnt tell anybody that. The Hebrews had enough sense to do that by themselves, otherwise they would have been killed. Remember, the Bible was written by Man--not God.
