I really think a few of the other answers are a little over the top with unnecessary panic.
Whatever sweets got stuck would be dissolved by now. He clearly did not aspirate; if he had, he would have triggered the cough reflex and had an episode you couldn't have missed.
He is doubtlessly experiencing hypersensitivity when feeling himself trying to swallow, as he is now more aware of the structures involved.
Give him ice water through a straw with his chin tucked toward his chest. Have him swallow several times in a row; this will give him confidence while he protects his airway.
Tell him you talked with a "swallowing doctor" online today; that should also give him a bit more confidence.

It is possible for it to still be stuck in there. It could possibly be stuck on his esophagus wall and at that point of the throat where only saliva gets to it. If he is having some problems breathing he may have inhaled it into his lungs. Common signs from this would be, a heavy feeling in chest or lung area, trouble breathing, and mild fever( only if severe or lots of stuff went into the lungs). I would call his dr and see what he suggests. Maybe just a lot of liquids for now until it finally detaches itself and goes into the stomach. If however you see that tommorrow he still has the same problems and is complaining of the same symptoms. More than likely he asparated it ( went to lungs). Best of luck!

I would imagine that it has disolved by now - it probably hurt when it went down so he probably is still thinking about the experience. It it was stuck, his natural reflexes would have gagged or choked. See how he is tomorrow. Obviously, if he cannot breath properly then it may be worth popping him along to A&E.

try getting him to chew on a piece of bread and then swallow it,the bread will act as a forklift and push the offending candy down his esophagus.after he gets the candy down, tell your son not to do that anymore because the next time he may choke.

Have him eat some yogurt or bread and drink a glass of milk and see if that helps. I take meds for Epilepsy everyday and everyday they get stuck in my throat, but the bread, yogurt and milk helps to wash it down. I hope he feels better soon......poor little guy! God Bless You!!

If his color is good and he can talk normally, he should be ok.
It sounds like he bruised or scraped his esophagus, which still hurts a lot.
Give him lots of liquids to drink, and give him soft foods until it is not so sore.
