I'm religious and I listen to reason. What did you want to discuss?

I think it has a lot to do with the way most, on what they feel is the "reasonable" side, don't want to discuss but prove they are right. And most on the Religious side get defensive so the they then are out to prove that only "God" is right.

I think there are many fascinating discussion (although perhaps not on this site lol) about how it all ties together. But the interesting real life conversations I've been in have had reasonable, intelligent people with open minds who didn't feel a need to prove either side.

Just seems on here those who say they want to discuss, just want to prove why they are right lolol. But I too would be up for any legitimate real discussion that allows for middle ground, respects all, and where no one needs to be defensive. But if your "listening to reason" is why won't folks throw away their beliefs and accept mine, that is a different story (and one that could as easily be asked in reverse by those discusing God IMHO).

You need to say why don't some religious people listen to reason, when discussing science vs. God. I'm religious and I listen to reason. Belief in God, logic, and reason are not foreign to each other.

Are you suggesting that you can get and know God by reason and observation?

Reason and observation known as the scientific method can not find God. Creationism is a belief not science.

Here is your proof that there is no proof. From Genesis, it was revealed that God existed before He created everything we can observe. That means God existed in the unobservable as well as the observable. For the science method to work, we need to have facts about God. Scientific facts are observation by men independent of location. God facts require observations of the unobservable. Contradiction. Genesis 1:1 can not be proved or disproved using science.

This proof is why creationism is not science.

Religion is from revealed knowledge, a revelation. For Christian, it is the word of God spoken by through the prophets recorded in the bible. It is a matter belief, believing the revelation or not. Jesus asked his followers to teach to all nations, not to convert everyone. If you want to discuss the teaching, Christians are willing to clarify the belief. If you want to debate the teachings, Christians, as did Jesus, should just move on. Debating belief is really a waste of time.

Answer: God is revealed and observed. Using science is like chasing the wind.

There is no schism between God and science. God is the author of all truth, including scientific ones. Problems arise between "scientists" and "religionists" because both sides have a tendancy to discredit the honesty and or intelligence of the "reasoning" of the people on the other side of the debate. If people on both sides learned to listen to and respect the reasoning of the people on the other side, there would be no "sides".

That is, I think it's a two way street. Religion gives spiritual evidence, Science gives physical evidence. People need to learn to recognise both, and use reason to understand it all.

I happen to love both! It's just that I never got a single answer to any prayer addressed to "science" whereas I get many from praying to God. Unless of course, you were made aware somehow of the power of prayer, which even the best doctors do and highly recommend! you'd be pretty hard up to explain that! But it doesn't alter the fact that it is absolutely true!

Why don't scientific people listen to reason, when discussing God who cannot be explained away by science.

why do 'reasonable' people put science on a pedestal? science is not as concrete as some may think, remember that there are 'scientists' behind it, and they are not gods. if u just look at scientific studies, u will see how much science contradicts itself. how many times has science been proven wrong?
belief in something is the only thing that will keep us sane in this crazy world.

I suspect they are afraid. Unfortunately they tend to talk to the wrong people.
There are many scientists who believe in an Almighty and a sense of order in the Universe.
Getting people to open their minds and listen to considered opinion is never going to be easy, but can be achieved with persistence.

The issue isn't science vs. God. The issue is the bias of one religion vs. the bias of another. Science is observable and repeatable, while the creation of the universe is neither of those. Even athiests will put their views before facts. I.e. Richard Lewontin.
