My 2 year old male tabby cat is limping and i dont know why. He is an outdoor cat and my mom Was petting him earlier today and he was fine but then she left. an hour later he was on the porch sleeping i picked him up to put him in the house (i dont like him to be outside) I put him down but he would not let his back right leg on the ground so he just layed down. Now he is sleeping on the chair and he seems to be fine but i am really worried. What could have happened? Do you think its serious? I want to take im to the vet but its closed on sundays. I dont want to take him to the emergency vet because they are extremely expensive and it doesnt seem like an emergency. I was just wondering what people thought?

Once you get a chance you might want to take him to a vet. That happed to my cat a few times before. Because your cat is an outdoor cat he might have jumped off something and landed wrong. My cat is an indoor cat and I think thats what happened to her. Maybe for now you can keep your cat inside, and make sure your cat doesn't jump on anything to prevent more pressure on his leg.It is probably no big deal and will heal in a few days. I'm sure he will be fine, and it's not anything serious, but make sure you keep an eye on him incase he shows any other signs of injury. If there are no open wounds or bite marks showing he should be fine untill you get him to a vet

I think people are giving Topi thumbs down because of the 'pet can take care of themselves' comment. This is basically bull sh*t - pets can't take care of their own health any better than children can. This is why the life expectancy of domestic animals is about 3 times longer than that of wild animals - because they have people to look after them!

Now then, your cat. Possibly it can wait until tomorrow - doesn't sound like you have a choice if your mom won't come home.

When your mom does get home, encourage her to take the cat to the vet. It may just be an abscess, but do be aware that cats are MASTERS at hiding pain - mostly when they have broken legs they just limp about, or even try to use the limb.

I'm not saying your cat's leg IS broken, but there is certainly the possiblity of this, or even a dislocated hip. The amount of times I've xrayed slightly lame cats and seen the most horrific injuries pop up on the xray film, completely out of the blue.

See what I'm saying? Get your mom to take the cat to the vet in the morning if she isn't using that leg COMPLETELY properly!

Ideally, he would be seen by a vet today. He may have a bite wound or a broken bone. But if you can't take him, keep him quiet, inside. Make sure his food, water and litter box are close and easy to get to. Is he eating? That's good if he is. Ask your Mom to take him to your vet first thing tomorrow morning. Be careful when handling him, because he may be in pain, and you don't want to get bitten or scratched. He's lucky he has you looking out for him. I hope he gets better soon.

check out his foot he probably hurt it when he was outside or maybe there is something stuck in it. Then take him to the vet tomorrow. also dont worry about it too much because pets can pretty much take care of themselves.
