There are several types of pillows, from wedges to ones that support the neck while elevating the back of the head. Other things that might work are one of the sprays on the market or those nose strips (my husband uses those). However, if your mom is kind of overweight and sleeps on her back, she could have what's called sleep apnea which can be a very serious condition. For that she should see a doctor and be checked out a sleep center. She may require oxygen or a machine called CPAP or BiPAP.

First, she should see a doctor to find out why she snores. There may be a medical reason for it.
Here is what snoring means.....
While we are breathing, air flows in and out in a steady stream from our nose or mouth to our lungs. There are relatively few sounds when we are sitting and breathing quietly. When we exercise, the air moves more quickly and produces some sounds as we breathe. When we are asleep, the area at the back of the throat sometimes narrows. The same amount of air passing through this smaller opening can cause the tissues surrounding the opening to vibrate, which in turn can cause the sounds of snoring. Different people who snore may have various reasons for the narrowing of the area at the back of the throat. The narrowing can be in the nose, mouth, or throat.

Any person can snore. Frequently, people who do not regularly snore will report snoring after a viral illness, after drinking alcohol, or when taking some medications. Studies estimate that 45 % of men and 30% of women snore on a regular basis. People who snore can have any body type. We frequently think of a large man with a thick neck as a snorer. However, a thin woman with a small neck can snore just as loudly. In general, as people get older and as they gain weight, snoring will worsen.

There are treatments and surgery that can be done but it may be something she can change on her own. There are things you can buy like that snoring pillow but that is a bit expensive but I added the web site anyway. Also the Breath Right strips. Good Luck and hope you all sleep well!!

A pillow will not help her. However visiting an allergist will. My oldest son age 7 snores like crazy every night. We visited an allergist and it is due to his tonsils and adenoids. The doctor put him on a decongestant and allergy med. Make sure if your mother smokes, that she does not smoke four hours before bed. Also to drink plenty of water to flush out any mucus built up. Elevation does help some as she is not laying flat and trying to breathe harder. A humidifier in her room at night helps to moisturize the throat and causes lubrication of the throat area. A hot shower RIGHT before bedtime helps to open up sinuses too.....
