Hi. I've been a nonsmoker for almost 10 years now and feel the same way as you. You are not a hypocrite.
It's an interesting phenomenon, but what you are really doing is deferring emotion. By "hating" cigarettes, you are keeping your urges away. Almost every exsmoker I've talked to would start again with the right circumstances. Me too. It's been 10 years and I could light up in a second.
So, to fight/stop this I get pissed off or disgusted when someone smokes near me, or smells like smoke or lights up. By deferring my emotion I am able to fight the cravings and addiction.
Unfortunately this may doom your relationship. How can you love someone who is doing something you hate? Four years is not long enough to really understand the addiction and avoid it. Either you will give up and start again, or you will leave, or she will quit.
What ever the outcome...Good luck!

First of all - congratulations on four smoke free years. That's awesome.
You're not a hypocrite. If you were still smoking, you'd be a hypocrite. I'm more inclined to say you're a guy who finally came to his senses.
Many of my friends who used to smoke and then quit are now very sensitive to second hand smoke. Seems to be a pretty common scenario. In any case, smoking around other people is one of the most inconsiderate things a person can do. It's not like I can create a barrier to keep the smoke away from me.

I quit smoking almost three years ago, and even though I dislike the smell of smoke now, I don't see any point in picking fights with my husband who still smokes. Either compromise with your partner(she smokes out side away from you, non-smoking sections when you go out together, etc...), or leave the relationship. Quit turning it into an argument, and just calmly state your case.

And she can't call you a hypocrite cause you're not doing it anymore...she's the hyrpocrite seriously- she's the one smoking HERSELF.you would only be a hyrpocite if you still liked smoking...but you don't- anyways...

NO. I mean, if you quit heroin 4 years ago, would you be a hypocrite for preaching against it?
The tone of your question suggests that you might be being a loudmouth pain-i-t-a about it though. You knew smoking was bad for you before you quit. How did you feel about people who made a production of it every time you lit up?

Of course it doesn't make you a hypocrite. I still smoke (though am "working" on quitting) and other people's smoke bothers me at times. I also don't impose my smoke on anyone else (If they ride in my car they can smell it but I don't smoke when anyone else is in the car).

No,you are not a hypocrite, you are a former smoker who quit in order to protect her health.I know too-well,the dangers of smoking. It does cause serious illnesses;I've watched three people die because of smoking-related illnesses and am caring for another who is slowly wasting away.

NO, that's what happens to all of us who have smoked before and have stopped now. We know the taste, the fun, and also the bad result of upset stomachs. I hate smoke now, and my dad who smoked years ago, he is against it too.
Go for it girl, ... now i feel if someone smokes, my cothes smell. Before i never even felt it in bed!

You're no more a hypocrite than the alcoholic or other drug addict who can't be around their (former) drug of choice. It sounds like she's a little jealous because you kicked the habit and she can't.
