I believe Advantage and Advantix are non-systemic, but I'm not 100% sure since I'm not so familiar with this brand as I am with Frontline. Frontline is non-systemic.
No flea product on earth can claim to never, ever have caused a reaction in any animal. I'd say you and your dog got unlucky - stick with Frontline if that's what your used to, as it definitely works!
I'd advise finding another vet just for the flea treatment if your current doesn't stock Frontline - Frontline can be sold over the counter so you only need to pop in. This is safer than buying online - beware of the discounted prices, you don't know how old your product is, how it's been stored/shipped or if it's even the genuine article!

My vet suggested a shampoo that contains oatmeal and tea tree oil. Bath your dog 2-3 days after you apply Advantix, it works!

Advantix can cause irritations in some dogs. Yours sounds like one who just cant use this medication. Yes please bring it back to your vet and tell them what has happened.
Get some Frontline and then use that.
Poor dog!
I use it without any problems but that does not mean that your dog can use it too. As far as I know it does get into the blood stream just like Frontline.

i don't have any answers except to say my 17lb poodle is in extreme distress after applying advantix
, as indicated, this afternoon.
the itching is severe. she can't sit still…keeps rubbing, flinching and moving from room to room….while panting heavily.
i never had this situation with frontline. it's too late to call my vet…so i'm just holding her and rubbing her gently which seems to help….this is not a good situation.

my 3 yr old cocker spaniel started itching like crazy and pacing a lot and having trouble breathing I used to put frontline with no reaction what so ever. he also has been hiding behind the couch under the blanket weird behavior, he is getting bit by I don't know what and I will never use this product as it was recommended by my groomer. my older cocker spaniel had no side effects. makes me very upset . because he was fine without any of this poison. I will never take him back to the groomer or will I put any thing on him.

could be reaction to fleas, could be reaction to bathing and application of advantix.. hmmm... try a warm water thorough rinse and see what happens... I also like Frontline Plus,, you CAN buy it online.. from the Doctors Foster and Smith website ( it is cheaper than the 1800petmeds website)
