My mom does that, just to ensure that I'm paying attention to her while she's talking a hole in my head, gossipping about her own children. I don't wanna hear her gossip about my brothers & sisters. I love her & them, but I have better things to do with my time, like study in school so I can make a better living & support my poor family.

That would just drive me nuts if someone said, "U HEARD ME?" continually. My sister used to say, "ya know" after everything she said when we were young. Thankfully she outgrew that or else I would have had to quit listening to her.
