It's been like it for like .. six years :/ In 2001, I started growing my hair long again; alas, I didn't go the hairdressers: Hence, split-ends. Even though I go to the hair-dressers now, every six weeks, I still have like really back split ends. I think they're all the way up to my ears.
So what would be the best solution..? :/ Cut my hair short..?
Eeek.

"You can restore your hair's health with a good treatment, but you need to cut those ends so healthy hair growth can really occur. But, that doesn't mean you have to cut all your hair off and get a major chop.

Split ends, which are technically referred to as Trichoptlosis happen when your hair's protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of your hair fibers. When this occurs, your hair is more likely to become extremely dry or brittle, especially if it is exposed to chemicals such as relaxers, hair coloring, sulfates etc.

To prevent future splits, I would suggest that you try this home remedy. Put 2 tablespoons of a mashed avocado or mayonnaise on your hair. Mix either one you use with and 1 egg. Then wrap your head with a warm towel. Let it remain on your hair for at least an hour.

Also, I would recommend that you halt any coloring for a while and apply as little heat and chemicals to your hair as possible. Stay away from unnatural hair care products, especially those containing alcohol."

Keep getting your trims. there are salons that actually can take off every split end without cutting your hair short, but it is really expensive and takes a long time. Also don't apply heat to your hair for at least 2mths. what you can do lets say you want it curly use rollers or leave your hair in a ponytail or in a bun if its a mess.

To remove split ends:

* Start with tiny pieces of hair. Gently twist them carefully in a downward motion.
If you have split ends, they will begin to stick out.
* Use sharp scissors and cut no more than ¼ inch at a time. Cut into and not right across. Remove thickness including the damaged cuticles to provide a natural effect. This will result in a layered look.
* It is important to cut the same amount evenly in each twist.

Remember to go slow…and do this with a friend for her support, judgment, and to have another set of eyes. Have fun!

no!
u need the split ends cut but u can fix them
stop using hair sprays and mousses and blow drying your hair
use a hair mask/strong conditioner
double the time it says to leave on
for the next month wash your hair every other day and use a shampoo then a conditioner leave the conditioner on for 30 Min's it will feel great later
also u could use mayonnaise as this strengthens your hair use it as a mask - put on leave for 1 hour wash off. You hair will smell like chippy for that hour but once washed off smells and feels great - make sure it is all out.

I know this may sound crazy but use a nit comb when the conditioner is on as well as stops u gettin nits i strengthens you hair and spreads the conditioner amazingly!

It works belive me!

The one and only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them, if you don't they will just continue to split and brake and split and brake causing your hair to appear like it's not growing when in fact it is but it's braking off as it grows. You have to cut them go and get a good haircut to get them off and keep your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks to avoid the split ends from coming back..

Really, you need to cut off everything that is split. I know this can sound scary especially if you are trying to grow your hair, but this really is the best thing you can do for your hair, from root to tip it's healthier this way. Healthier hair grows faster and stronger too.

You will have to cut the split ends out: That's what I did with mine after it was ruined by rubber bands after I braided it. But if you use a good shampoo and conditioner, and don't overdry your hair or otherwise abuse it, it should be fine once the split ends are gone.

Just cut an inch off your hair every month. Even if you're trying to grow it long.
