I've been browsing through the 'Religious &Spirituality' pages and I am surprised at how many athiests attack those who believe in (a) God. If you are so convinced that there is no 'God', then why get worked up about nothing...?

Moiraes..., dear, go back and read the question carefully, you'll find that I was speaking about BELIEF in God, not religion, when you've worked out the difference, you can come back and respond.

It works the other way too. Many religions think their God is the only true God and that they alone are right so attack other belief systems but there are many lamps but its all the one light.

Maybe because those that believe in 'a' god (mainly christians, really) throw logic and reason out of the window and make laws and dictate to the rest of the world on how to live based only on a 2000 year old book.

You seem to have forgotten the part where the Christians verbally attack us and scorn the theory of evolution. Why should they do this when they know god exists?
And have you ever noticed that the only time we might do this is when they are rude to us? As far as I see all we do is say (with a little humor) our beliefs.

Is there something wrong with the religious brain that makes it completely impossible for them to think things through logically?

Let me spell it out for you....

Atheists are concerned with what religion does BECAUSE RELIGIOUS ARE CONCERNED WITH WHAT EVERYONE ELSE DOES AND TRY TO MAKE EVERYONE ELSE LIVE BY THEIR RELIGION.

Don't believe me? Take a look at the things they're doing in life. They knock on your doors to peddle their religion, they follow you down the street to peddle their religion, they are trying to get gay marriage, abortion, and stem cell research banned (even though its not even done on blastocysts anymore and the blastocysts that it had been done on probably never would have been born anyway since they were left overs from fetility clinics or already aborted), they're trying to get prayer into schools (completely ignoring the fact that not everyone is Christian and promoting that ONLY Christian prayer be allowed while everyone else has to keep their mouth shut or do it in private so their delicate sensibilities don't have to deal with it), they're trying to get Intelligent Design taught in the science classroom...

You already know why. Atheists want everyone to be treated equally in every way with no one favored above anyone else because of their religion. The only way to ensure that is for Atheism to rule because every religion in the world thinks THEY should control everything.

Think please.

I get so tired of answering this question when an earthworm could figure it out if they bothered paying attention to the world.

Edit: You know what? Look at some of the answers here... Christians talking about how Atheists hate themselves, the spirit of Satan taking them over, and other self deluding lies.

You already know. Just look at the religious replies and how they insult, aggravate, and bait the Atheists on here.

Religion is only the act of practicing religious belief, honey.

For one, fundamentalist christians are doing quite a bit these days to try to take over leadership of my country. It's fine if you want to believe in a god, but don't start a movement to take over the country & impose your religious law.
Not to mention that many christians are trying to INCITE the rapture by bringing about the end-times. I just want to live in peace, NOT superstition.

I don't attack religious people, i do 'challenge' them about what they belive because they seem to have this amazing ability to discount scientific facts even where there is concrete evidence to back it up.

They also are not willing to admit that HUGE parts of the Bible is complete nonsense (even when they know it)because they would then have to admit other parts of it could be wrong true.

Were shall we start? What about the entire human race being started by adam, eve and a talking snake?lol

Attack? No, Have a good laugh at? Certainly.

I'm not sure I "attack" anyone. I'm not sure I'm really worked up either.

Although, I can remember being worked up when I watched a relative die of a disease stem cell research would likely to cure. This was shortly after the President of the United States of America said "God" told him to invade Iraq.

well didn't you notice all the posts saying "Atheists are following the devil","they're evil" oh and sooo many more?

depends on which perspective you look at it in really...

and personally,i'm not too fond of some ill mannered christians (many of who i have met share this trait) who are utterly intolerant and arrogant and think they have the right to force their beliefs on others.

actually,it's rather pathetic to say "you're going to burn in hell for eternity" to a person who doesn't believe in it.

Because you deluded religious types are prepared to belived in a 'God' even though there is not the faintest piece of evidence that such a being exists.

We get so worked up that there are actually individuals about who believe that the world was created about six thousand years ago by a god in about a week.

We get so worked up because there are individuals about who believe that Noah could build a ship so large that he was able to fit every living creature in the world x 2 (or x 7) into it.

My advice to simple religious folk like yourself is to try reading Richard Dawkins' excellent book The God Delusion. It is to the 21st century what the bible was to the dark ages.

But beware! It may be a little to complicated for simple religious folk such as yourself!!

Of course the real reason for religion is to provide a cover for paedophiles to carry out there perversions as it gives them access to young and impressionable children:

Rationally, it makes no sense. I guess they feel they have to have a target to get all that self-hatred out on. I mean, I don't believe in the existence of bigfoot, but I'm not going to hang-out in the mythology section just to prove that I don't. Maybe their handlers are trying to get the herd organized for when they think they'll do away with religion and God in America, who knows?
