The two serious ideas I have heard are a parasite or a disease. Bees are extremely susceptible to both. Since all the bees in a particular hive live in very close quarters a parasite can easily lay eggs and infect an entire hive. Also due to the close proximity disease is spread easily. Another factor pointing to disease is the fact that all male bees are haploid organism. That means they have 1/2 the chromosomes of the female bees, if the males contained a defective gene or faced a disease that had something to do with genes than they would be vulnerable. If a number of males died out that the females would not be able to reproduce in large numbers and a hive would die.
I have seen global warming mentioned as a cause by a few wackos (no scientists are saying this) but there is no evidence to support that claim, and if you think about it, it makes no sense.

a parasitic mite ,changes in temperatures, disease and killer bees,
also the spraying for mosquitos kills other insects in advertedly
90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.
In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched,
and that "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."
the numbers of wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent.
If bees continue to die off so would the crops they support and with that would ensue major economic disruption and possibly famine.
Bees are not the only polinators but if these things are happening to bees we can bet on it that other insects are also in trouble ,on top of this many people are spraying for mosquitos ,with drastic effects .
so much follows the insects in the food chains ,that we can expect a lot of very bad changes in the environment .
Albert Einstein said ,that when the bees disappear we have 4 more years to live
only time will tell what is in store for us ,and that time is running now .

Global bee population totals have been on the sharp decrease, first noticed (and warned about by top eco-scientists), which logically rules out cellphone use and tower signals causing such deaths. For us to assurredly say this is the cause of bee death would mean we have unlocked their "language" and secrets of communication--something we're way way off from getting near to understand.
The most likely cause of bee population decrease can be attributed to the domino cause/effect of planet-wide "global warming"--a matter we DO have some reversal control (at this time) over.......if we heed the warnings and make effective strides at fixing the problem(s).

There are also experiments going on to determine if cell phone signals are driving bees away.
