Because some cultures dictate that boys are more important than girls. Finding out could result in people having abortions purely because they don't like the sex of the child.

The only reason I can think of is because the parents themselves don't want to know. Some choose to wait and see. Some would and should know, if it is possible to tell. Many mistakes have been made. The sex of an unborn child is not as easily determined as many believe.

I think it is a personal choice, however, like people have said, it spoils the surprise.
In some countries, however, this can be deadly. In Asian culture, (not all, sorry to be general, I don't remember the name of the country) sometimes after determining the sex of the baby, they reconsider the birth and choose to abort the pregnancy. Males (babies) are valued more in these cultures because they are able to carry on a family name or legacy more so than a female.

Strange that you would want to know reasons !
In some countries like India (in rural areas) where female children are aborted even before they are born if their gender is known, you would never ask this question. The government has a very strict law and is followed strictly.
Also though technology is so great, God still has miracles & surprises for everybody. So it might turn out to be the other gender and destroy happiness, expectations etc.

Well since it is in food, my answer is that the boy babies are more stringy when cooked.
Seriously, they shouldn't be told if they don't want to know. If they want to know, then its good for them to find out, because they may be just starting out and they can start buying what they need for their son or daughter, without having to exchange anything later, not to mention extra time to decide on a name.
WTF? Sorry about that ghastly long sentence!

When my mum was pregnant with me, there was another lady in her birthing class who really wanted a girl, and had been told by her obstetrician at an ultrasound that she was definately having a girl. She got really excited, named the baby, bought all pink clothes and painted its room pink, and then ended up having a boy. My mum said that she found out later that the woman commited suicide from post natal depression not long afterwards...
A very good reason for expecting mums to NOT be told the sex of their baby, in my opinion!

Personally i think you should be able to know the sex of your child if you want to know.
But at some hospital's it's a no because some religion's favour boys to girls, but if thats the case they should bring the abortion age down, to stop people playing god! with regards to the previous answer, the technology nowaday's is really accurate.

some would favor to entice close and some do not, yet for those that do favor to entice close there will be quite a few different causes: extra precise planning: economic causes: why purchase eco-friendly and yellow or white...once you comprehend the sex of your unborn infant you could purchase certain.......

Because it can lead to child-molestation. Step-dads usually molest step-daughters and vice-versa, but if the husband and wife work things out, none of this has to happen.

Because the joy of finding out right when the baby is born probably exceeds the joy of finding out beforehand when you haven't seen the baby yet.
And also because it's creepy when people name their babies before they are born, and walk around talking about Mikey or Suzie......when they're still in utero. I think that's really gross.
