Matt 6:24-34
"No man can serve two masters ... Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat, and the body than raiment?
"Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
"And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
"Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ..."

Matthew 19:21-29
"Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
...
"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

Jesus' teachings about poverty are one thing that many Christians like to ignore
heck, i've ever been told by some evangelicals that Jesus promises and even condones monetary wealth!

Everyone deserves a better lifestyle than Jesus or any one else from that era. The working class today live better than kings did back then. The implication of your question is that a spiritual person should be poor. Nothing could be futher from the truth. All the scripture cited above does not explain renuciation and detachment. It is the craving (lust) for "things" and attachment to things that jesus was referring to.

I see that you don't know how to interpretate scriptures, Jesus is not telling his followers to sell all they have, He is saying if you put all these things before him that you are not worthy, I can now see many going out selling their houses, & after they sell literally all they own, how can they afford to live, they have no money for food & shelter, Then they can not follow Jesus anymore because their bodies will give out for lack of food, You have to know how to understand scriptures, Therefore Jesus comes first, But he also know that we have a little common sense. Peter was a fisherman, & Jesus told Peter to lay down his net & follow him, yet I read further on down that Jesus saw Peter fishing all night without catching anything & Jesus told him what side to cast the net, Now Peter knew what Jesus meant when he said follow him.

This ties in with James 4:13-15
Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

Well we don't deserve anything actually. Everything is grace. Everything belongs to God. What's bound on earth shall be having first been bound first in heaven. That is the correct translation of that passage. It's up to God. He has all the power. We are not little Deity's.

there is no correct answer, in fact the question itself draws from the idea of Christianity. According to Christ we are the children of God and what parent doesn't want a better lifestyle for their children.

I don't even deserve Jesus, But He has given me new life... and if in that life, I have been blessed... I will graciously accept those blessings and share them with whomever comes my way....
I serve God alone and have been blessed...

None of us does. My children may not always deserve my love and kindness either, but I can still choose not to withhold it from them. God gives us more than we deserve...and I for one thank Him.
