I though I had them recently, but it was was just an allergy. The doctor looked between my fingers, at the knuckles for signs of a rash, if it had been scabies she said one application of cream or a body wash would have been enough to get rid of them. Best go to the doc. ASAP.

Scabies is very difficult to diagnose even for experienced dermatologists. It often affects hands, which is usually where the mite gets in, feet is much less common, at least without having itch on the rest of the body. If you want a diagnosis you will need to get a doctor to have a look.

MY Son had scabies last year. What I haven't read in the answers even though they were good answers is the following:

Are you living alone or with roommates? Scabies come out of your skin at night normally and can live without a human host for 48 hours. So if you have roommates or pets they also can have scabies. You all need to be treated at the same time or you will keep passing them back and forth. You need to wash everything in hot water. If you can't wash something then into a garbage bag for a few days this includes sofa cushions A doctor will give you a prescription for a cream that you COVER your self in at night and then wash off in the morning. You need to treat ASAP , you can pass this to everyone, in you car, in a chair at work / school. It can also leave scars from the scratching so be careful. Good Luck!

scabies are mites that burrow under the skin, typically on hands but can affect other areas of the body too. you will see little faint 'burrow' marks under the skin where the mites enter the body, these are about as wide as a thin piece of thread and maybe up to 5mm long. if you go to your pharmacy they will advise you on what product to use, it is a variation on headlice treatment (some will also work on scabies). make sure you treat your whole body, not just the affected areas. also, wash all the clothes you wear each time you wear them, wash your bed sheets & use a different towel each time you shower until it has cleared up. if it is scabies, treat everyone living in the house.

Scabies are tiny mites which burrow under the skin. Most noticeable and irritating when your body temperature rises, for example, when having a hot bath, or when asleep in bed wrapped up in thick blankets.
Scabies are easily treated and once treated are eradicated.
See your doctor immediately if it is scabies, antihistamines will not treat the complaint!

Scabies causes severe itching that is usually worse at night.

A person with a first scabies infestation may not develop itching and skin sores for several weeks. If the person is ever infested again with scabies, symptoms develop in a few days.

If you have scabies, you need medication prescribed by your doctor to cure scabies. Scabies can only be cured with prescription creams or lotions. Nonprescription medications are not strong enough to kill the mites.

Most creams or lotions are applied to the entire body from the neck down. The medication usually is left on for 8 to 14 hours and then washed off.

You will likely continue to itch for days to weeks after having successfully killed the mites. This itching is caused by an ongoing allergic reaction to the mite bites. Your doctor may recommend antihistamines (such as Benadryl), steroid creams, and, in severe cases, steroid pills to help relieve itching. The allergic reaction will usually disappear gradually.
