There is a product called Nevr Dull that you can get at any auto parts store that I think is fantastic. It comes as a cotton wad infused with polish. Simply polish the metal and wipe off the excess.

Jay is right about never dull, great stuff. WD40 would make braking interesting. If the tarnish is real bad you can use a Brillo pad with a bucket of watter then use the neverdull after to polish them up a bit.

Have you tried WD-40 ? That stuff is amazing and can be used for so any things that you would never even think of.
