I am a nurse but this one has me sort of floored. I had my tonsils taken out as a child. So Friday night I began to notice my throat was getting sore. It is a different soreness than what I get when I do get sick. Usually it is a scratchy sore throat. This time it is a severe, deep sort of pain. All day yesterday I ran a low grade fever with the highest being 100.7. So last night I got a pen light and began looking and noticed I have a red pocket with a yellowish tint to it in the area where my tonsils were. My throat only hurts on that side. I had a strep test here and got my hubby to swab my throat and that was negative. I have heard the physician I work with say before that strep throat is very unlikely when you dont have tonsils but can happen in rare cases but I dont think this is what it is!! What could this be - I am worried and worse today. I am even considering going to the hospital!! Any suggestions??
