I am a nurse but this one has me sort of floored. I had my tonsils taken out as a child. So Friday night I began to notice my throat was getting sore. It is a different soreness than what I get when I do get sick. Usually it is a scratchy sore throat. This time it is a severe, deep sort of pain. All day yesterday I ran a low grade fever with the highest being 100.7. So last night I got a pen light and began looking and noticed I have a red pocket with a yellowish tint to it in the area where my tonsils were. My throat only hurts on that side. I had a strep test here and got my hubby to swab my throat and that was negative. I have heard the physician I work with say before that strep throat is very unlikely when you dont have tonsils but can happen in rare cases but I dont think this is what it is!! What could this be - I am worried and worse today. I am even considering going to the hospital!! Any suggestions??

Yellow isn't strep that is white stripes. You should know that tonsils can grow back its a small chance but you might be one of the ones its happened too.
Of course go to the hospital your a nurse.. they can test you for many things I can't believe your asking that sort of question on Yahoo Answers in your profession.. go see a doctor!

well, i'm not a nurse or doc but, if this has you stumped and you are a nurse, i'd say go to the doctor. have the doc where you work take a look. if you're contagious, you don't want to be around patients. good luck

Well, if the pocket has yellow stuff in it, that's probably pus! That equals... infection. It is likely bacterial - go see a doctor! And don't risk infecting your patients, go now!

Take one glass of water mix it with1tsp pepper, 1tsp turmeric, 1tsp garlic, 1tsp small onion, 1tsp ginger and 1tsp of sugar. Boil it until it becomes 1/2 glass, drink it while it is warm. More remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
