My Pug will pee in one small area on the pad and won't use it again anywhere else on the pad? I'm glad he's using the pads, but they're a little expensive to be throwing away each time there is a little bit of pee on it?

He's already very good about going to the bathroom outside, I just have the pads set up for when I don't catch him in time... sometimes he doesn't warn me when he has to go... but he has recently started using the pads...

its okay to use them more than once! it will direct your doggie to the right place again with less confusion too :)

Skip the pads and train him to pee outside. Use a crate for training if you will be gone for a few hours. You are not only wasting money, you are wasting time. Train the dog to ask to go out and pee in the grass. The person who invented these pee pads is an idiot IMO.
Why train the dog twice? Just train him right the first time. It's very confusing to a dog to be trained to pee inside in this spot then train him that it's no longer allowed to pee inside...
Toss the pads and go outside where ALL dogs should eliminate.

Yes, they will use a pee pad more than once, keep in mind that the reason they are attracted to a pee pad is because they are impregnated with dog urine to begin with. If your pug is being trained to go to the bathroom in one specific place they will learn to do duty on the same pad. One of our little pugs that was a rescue could pee about ten times in a 2 hour period (because of previous under-nourishment) as your puppy gets a little more familiar with where it is suppose to go and you keep at it, he will get the idea.

i know this doesn't really answer your q but, why not train him to go outside? my sister in law used the pads and it worked okay when her dog was very small but, when the dog gets older, do you really want to be cleaning that up? the smell can get pretty bad. if you're planning to outside train him later anyway, why not save yourself the hassle and do it now?

Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety and it can be a lot of fun. Dogs are usually eager to learn, and the key to success is good communication. Your dog needs to understand how you’d like her to behave and why it’s in her best interest to comply with your wishes. Try these. I have little dogs who stay home while I am at work and they use these when they can't get out.
