The time is now to start searching for outside college scholarships. The FAFSA form for the 2009-2010 academic year becomes available to you on January 1, 2009. There are somethings you can do to increase your chances of receiving college scholarships now. I will list some free sources to help you out.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state scholarships & grants.

Fourth, fill out the FAFSA form after January 1 of your senior year of high school. It will qualify her for need based financial aid from the federal government and the school itself. It will come in the form of scholarships, Pell Grant, student loans, and the work study program.

Fifth, study and practice for the SAT or ACT tests. It can help bring merit scholarships from the college itself. There are good test preparation books out there.

Sixth, join several school clubs that you are interested in because it can help increase your chances of college admission and locate college scholarships.

Seventh, states do offer grant and scholarships for students with excellent grades. Search Google.com and Yahoo.com for these grants and scholarships with your state's name. I recommend trying to raise your GPA a little more if you can this school year and next school year.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

what they're telling you is now is NOT the time to look for loans. You can, however root thru the books on grants and find which suits you (you have to read thru a lot of stuff before you can determine if it's for you, in the major they want, for the certain people they will grant it to, or if it's in the proper major). That will take you a lot of time to read, to copy, to prepare your letter and then to hold off until the time they say they will grant it. I understand you are anxious, however I suggest you bring those grades up to a 4.0 before applying.

The other way to do things is to go to a junior college or a community college where the cost is less and school there for an associate degree. And pay that as you go (have a job too). Then transfer that associates degree to a four-year college. The cost of education has steadily risen and the interested on defaulted loans could have you paying till you're in your in your 80's (years old because of new laws for collection). Ask the college when you should apply for the 2009-2010 year. You know it's early to try to apply now but to continue to ask when you've already been told no means you're pestering them. You need to figure out what you want to major in. Some students these days take 3 years of high school and their 4th year is already college. Maybe you can get higher grades and do your high school sooner if you take summer courses. Ask.

You can't fill out the FAFSA forms until you are ready to apply for your freshman year of college, and then every year for renewal. The system does not work any other way. At that time, you will fill out the form using your parents or gaurdians tax returns. Financial aide is determined on financial need. Things like the value of your parent's home if they own one, the number of other children they have in schools that require tuition, their yearly income and the size of any investment accounts will all be considered in determining how much your family should be able to pay towards your education. Don't freak...the reality is that most families can't make that level. However, it will determine the types of financial aide you can apply for. Grants have gotten extremely hard to get...most people end up having to take financial aide or private loans to fund thier education. You should be prepared for the likely hood that you will be beginning your post graduate life with debt. Scholorships can be given based on several things...financial need, academic success, community involvment, etc. You can start looking at trying for local scholorships that are often given as prizes or awards...your school guidance office should have a list or know of places to look. Your parent's place of employment may have some or your church. Keep in mind that many of these are only awarded to students in their junior and senior years, so again if you can't apply now use the time to get the things together you will need when the time comes. Your guidance cousnelor can also provide you with sources for other scholorships and grant programs, but again most of those can not be applied for until your senior year and after you have filed your FAFSA. Keep in mind, the sooner you file that first FAFSA the better the chances of grant money, so be sure your parents do thier taxes ASAP during your senior year!

the main be conscious it is "unlawful". i'm curious approximately improving your self, yet we've rules for a reason. Why also have a regulation or a border if it relatively is not enforced? there is not any different united states in the international the place you may enter illegally and get the style of amenities and way of existence you do in u . s .. until eventually human beings crack down on the unfastened amenities provided to unlawful immigrants, the persons who're here legally and paying taxes are going to be footing the bill for people who pick to no longer obey the regulation. Why no longer keep on with for citizenship and then get economic help?
