You can't be serious! First of all it is far safer and healthier for a dog to be spAyed or neutered. Females are likely to get ovarian cancer and breast cancer if left intact. Males are subject of prostrate cancer if left in tact. Aside from medical issues there is an over population of dogs and cats and spaying and neutering is a responsible thing to do. IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
Your question is so off the wall ridiculous. I suggest you do some homework on the subject. Spaying and Neutering is not a scam developed by vets to collect pay checks.
Have you ever had surgery of any kind? Has anyone in your family? It's far from cruel. You are knocked out and do not feel a thing.
I also suggest that you look at some web sites of puppy mills, back yard breeders and animal abuse and direct some of your energy towards those problems which incidentally are caused by irresponsible people such as yourself.
I so do not expect you will look any further into this subject because it's far easier to be ignorant about it.
Like the saying goes... Ignorance is Bliss!

it is actually very cruel to do to your dog what you are doing. I do not agree with you in any way. by not spaying or neutering you girl dogs go into heat and they suffer. they also can pick up many kinds of diseases. fixing your animal does not cost $300, i really don't know how you got such a large number. If you would just fix your dogs you would see big changes. your boy dog would be less dominate and more obidient. your girl dogs would lisen more! they would be sweeter and more loving. when you are doing what you are doing you are taking a chance on puppies not having a home and being put to death or homeless! now tell me who is the cruel one? stop spraying water on your dogs and do the right thing! also you say we have no right to take there ableness to have kids, well then what are you doing throwing buckets of water on them making sure they don't become mommys????????

All responsible pet owners desex (Australian term) their animals to avoid adding to the already too large amount of unwanted and abandoned animals already in this world. What happened to the litter? You say that litter was an accident but if the wandering dog had been desexed, then it would not have happened. No doubt animals have rights, such as being well fed, loved, a roof over their heads etc but that is the extent of it. Paying $300 to desex an animal is cheaper than having the rspca put to sleep a bunch of dogs no one wanted. It is not traumatising at all. I have 6 dogs, and had 2 before them, all desexed. None of them gave a crap about it. They never cried over their unborn children, the never got upset seeing a baby puppy. They live happy lives as part of my family. Desexing a female dog also decreases the risk of mammary cancer because when a female dog is desexed before the first season occurrence of mammary cancer is very low.
Basically, this world already has too many unwanted pets so why add to the cruelty, meanness, selfishness and inhumanity of that sorry state? Have you ever visited a shelter that does not have a no kill policy in place? Please tell me then how inhumane we are to not add to that with misinformed and foolish beliefs that dogs suffer from not having babies. I think it is highly irresponsible of owners to NOT have this done.

It has been the latest craze to argue "how do you know your dog wanted that done?" or "your dog has rights too".
Responsible breeding should be the big question. Contiunous irresponsible breeding of mixed breeds and poor quality purebreeds is completely out of control. Leaving dogs unaltered adds to the # of unplanned litters and unwanted pups.
If you are going to keep every single pup your dogs produce or take back a dog (at any age) you placed with a family to keep it from adding to the shelter & rescue overpopulation, then I have little issue with your thinking.
However, if you continue to allow your dogs to breed at will, (especially with 3 females & 1 male) once you place pups and you feel you are no longer responsible, you aren't being very responsible. Throwing litter after litter only decreases your female's life span, which is cruel.
If your dogs fall within "A" recognized breeds standard (not several) with no disqualifying faults, screened for health issues, bred responsibly, sold or placed under contract that they are not to be surrendered to a shelter or rescue, but be returned to you, then I see no problem with breeding.

So its not mean an inhumane to have a poor entire male around 3 in season b*itches. How would you like to be put in a room for the rest of your life surrounded by what ever Gender takes your fancy and told your never to have sex with them?? At least having them neutered/spayed takes all this desire away and we don't have to worry about more unwanted dogs in the shelter.
I think throwing cold water over dogs while in the middle of mating is much worse than having a simple operation ONCE.

You act like all this is done when the animals are awake, they are asleep when this is done so they don't feel anything! They give the animals pain meds too. It's for population control reasons, the shelters and humane societies are OVERRUN with unwanted animals, which they have to put to sleep, now which is more inhumane, fixing an animal or putting it to sleep?? Another reason is b/c male animals spray when they hit puberty and if you have children, this is sooo unsanitary and can make your house smell TERRIBLE. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs and all 4 animals are fixed, and VERY VERY happy. I'm all for freedom to think and say whatever you want, but don't attack people and call them "irresponsible pet owners" b/c we do this. You are a narrow minded and small person to attack people like me, do your research before you start judging people.

Either you are extremely young, extremely ignorant of reality, or just trying to get a rise out of the community. Either way, do some research on spaying and neutering because it is most certainly NOT inhumane and can extend their lifespan. The way you write it, any surgery would be inhumane, so if an important operation is needed to save a life, because of the pain it is inhumane?Wow get a life. Either that or you are cheap. If any of these apply, give all your dogs up to your local rescue because YOU are the inhumane one and these dogs deserve a better life with a more conscientious owner!

Wow! If Ignorance is Bliss (as one answerer stated) Then you must be really, really happy.
Must be really satisfying being able to go thru life not being able to see the big picture.
Tell me, what happened to the litter your dog had? They wind up at the local shelter just to be put down after going 2 weeks unadopted?
Take the blinders off & get educated.
The only good reason NOT to have your pets fixed is for breeding, & only then if they're worth breeding, & if you're properly responsible & licensed.

"irresponsible of the owner" is not controlling the pet population by having your pet spade or nuetered. HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of animals die each year because they do not have homes and are put to sleep in animal shelters due to irresponsible pet owners who think a water hose is a good enough form of birth control.
Spaying and nuetering can actually be BENEFICIAL to a pet, by lengthen a pet's life and improving the quality of its life with you, decreasing some health risks like mammary tumors, prostate enlargements and uterine infections, and making your pet a better family member by eliminating territorial marking and seasonal heats that cause pets to roam.
Would you want to have been born if you knew you'd be homeless, scrounging for food, fighting with other people for survival, and then given a lethal injection when caught? Or would you rather not have been born? You tell me which is more cruel.

1) dogs do not have a compeling urge to be mothers that is a completely human emotion
2) spay/neuter is healthier for your dog
3) dogs don't have sex for pleasure or intamitcy they only mate for procreation reasons
4) spay/neuter has absolutely nothing to do with vet pay checks...if dogs are left unaltered vets would make far more money treating mammary cancers, testicular cancers, pyometria, prostrate issues, infections and cancers, dog bite wounds, etc A vet can stand to make double to triple the pay check if they need to treat any of the above conditions especially if done on an emergency basis like most pyometria cases are
It is far more inhumane to leave your dogs intact then it is to spay/neuter. You are leaving them with frustrations they can't control, hormonal fluctuations, hormonal driven behaviors, great increase in serious health issues and at risk for accidental/unwanted pregnancies.
If you had ever spent any real honest to goodness time in a vet hospital you would very, very quickly see the advantages of spay/neuter....I have seen far too many dogs (and cats) suffer from health issues taht could have been avoided.
I've seen mammary cancers on many dogs & cats..I've seen them have to go through radical mastectomies and treatments which are very hard on the pet to say nothing of expensive. I just watched a 3 year old dog die from mammary cancer just last week..I've seen dogs come in with testicular and prostrate cancers..I've seen dogs come in with incontinence issues from prostrate enlargements and infections as well as cancer..I've see far too many emergency spays done because a dog has pyometrai..I've seen far too many end up dying because the infection was to far advanced..do you think this is only in older dogs.cats? Think again I've seen these issues in pets as young as 9 months old. I've seen horrible anal fistulas, also a problem in intact dogs particularly males..these are very, very painfuland hard to heal.
Spay/neuter does cause a bit of pain but it is short term and far less traumatising then going through cancer or pyometria surgery or cancer treatments or treatment for anal fistuals. It is also far less of a risk on your female dog then pregnancy, whelping and raising a litter.
Also intact male dogs have the highest rate of dog bites and dog attacks with intact females coming in second. An altered dog also stays better focused during training especially in the presence of other dogs.
