You don't a Monster-brand cable, but you do need component or HDMI cables to watch HDTV. S-Video or composite can't pass HD signals. Using S-video to watch a DVD is OK though (but component - any brand - should give you better quality)

Categorically, Monster cables are a rip off. Lots of advertising = big bucks! Monster's $80 HDMI can be duplicated through on line cable sellers for about $10, including shipping.
Try, e.g., www.MonoPrice.com. This is just one of many. What cables will provide you the most benefit depends on several factors, including your feed - digital, HD, etc.

no longer really. besides the indisputable fact that it truly is going to remember upon the television this is self, because it does up scaling. a cheap HDTV, ought to look worse than a SD television, (at the same time as gazing SD content). the guideline is: A HDTV, without something HD to visual demonstrate unit, is in basic terms an overestimated television. All that being reported, you could get some HD channels out of your cable agency at no more beneficial cost. those will be NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, PBS, CW and some different locals. also, once you watch DVD's, you receives a extra suitable image, because your HDTV can demonstrate 480p, the position the old SDTV can genuinely demonstrate 480i. you could also get upscaling DVD gamers, and Bluray gamers for less costly. - 17R3W

If you have an HD box you would want to use an HDMI cable. if you don't have a HD box it doesnt matter because your signal is not hd and you would get the same picture with HDMI , component(red green and blue) and RCA (yellow red and white)
