I fell off a horse yesterday, and I hurt my back. It isn't too serious, I suspect it is just a muscle.
Today I am stiff and sore. Aside from Advil, what can I do to ease the pain and stiffness? Is it better to lie still all day or should I go for a walk?

Should I rest lying on my back, side or stomach? When I lie on my stomach it is very, very painful.

Definitely rest, do not attempt anything today or for several days . You should lie on your back only. apply a heating pad for twenty minutes. Massage an analgesic cream into the back, hopefully you have someone who can do this for you. Then wait fifteen minutes and apply an ice pack for ten minutes. Do this several times a day.

Tomorrow you should see your medical doctor or a chiropractor to make sure nothing serious has happened.

Everything Billie said is correct. I also advise you to see a Chiropractor and have everything aligned. You never know if you will end up having pain reappear later on. It's best to correct everything now.

Riding horses can cause spinal misalignment on it's own, so it would be good to go ahead and get adjusted from time to time as recommended by the Chiropractor.
