Well, humanity and morality are pretty standard.

In a similar vein as Knyghtzero's answer, I've heard many theists argue that without God, there would be no absolute "moral" standard....and so atheists either (a) behave in a completely immoral fashion (rape, pillage, do drugs, hump monkeys, etc.), or (b) live by a man-made moral standard.

(a) is completely bunk on a global scale (though in any society, there are people who do rape, pillage, etc.), and (b) is a big "so what?". If a society as a whole logically concludes that it is wrong to kill and steal, then so be it. Even without the 10 Commandments it seems like we'd come to that conclusion.

At any rate, I think it depends on the theist, and it probably depends greatly on their religious education (specifically, are they more open minded, or do they swallow anything their preacher tells them as gospel truth?). There are those who realize that atheists can be decent, law-abiding, respectable people, and then there are those who assume every atheist is a sin-pig wallowing in his own filth. It's like any other group of people - in each group, there are people who give the other group the benefit of the doubt, and there are people who assume the worst regarding the other group.

In regards to science, my attitude towards it is that it requires an accurate perception of the progress of time.
Philippians 3:13 says:
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.
James 4:14 says:
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Superstition means "standing over" including the idea of standing over from the past. There's a difference between listening to messages and building up ceremonies around messengers. Scientists are just regular people. Einstein's inspiration over the sink while shaving can be understood as post-hypnotic suggestions from a previous time of hypnotised work.

Anyway, the apostle Paul said not to judge those outside the church. God will judge them. They are only subject to secular law, which Christians are supposed to be in subjection to (Romans 13). It keeps law-breakers in fear (supposed to). It's better than nothing.

i do no longer even comprehend what you're talking approximately. I ought to computer screen the information extra..what befell with Stalin and how are atheists related? i could by no potential blame an entire group of folk for the action of one. that is like blaming all white human beings for slavery while no longer all white human beings have been slave proprietors.

Pascal's Wager?

+++++++++++++

Yeah, couldn't resist the irony. Delicious, Delicious Irony.

I think you're question is too broad. "Theists" can include liberal Christians, non-churched "Spiritual people", Fundamentalists, and some pretty messed up Bible thumpers.

And some of them are pretty nasty, that just comes with Yahoo answers, I think.

If you can`t follow the laws of God, at least TRY to obey the laws of man. You may not appreciate religion, but at the very least, it promotes respect for your fellow man(or woman). It allows for a sense of community & trust. It doesn`t pay to be the good samaritan anymore, you could lose your life, & that doesn`t have anything to do with people of religion.

Well, a lot of theists expect us to be at least Master's-level students of evolutionary biology, which is flattering, if somewhat inaccurate.

I think just respect..and respecting them by not saying nasty stuff about who they believe in..ask questions but not in a derogatory way about who they believe in...
I think theists should quit doing the same stuff to athiests...
Not all people think the same way and we should respect each others right to believe in who we want..and in doing so, knowing that it will hurt or offend.we don't make derogatory comments or questions about who or what they believe in..or who they do not believe in.

From what i have heard from a good number of theists, we should pillage, rape, kill without apparent reasons, steal, rape, be violent, rape, worship fake gods, worship ourselves, rape, do anything that falls in the denomination of sinful, be promiscuous, and did i mention rape?
