If you are under 50 years of age and you do not anticipate returning to work, you may be entitled to Disability Living Allowance, which is is measured on two levels of immobility. If you are over 50, the benefit is called Attendance Allowance, measured on 3 levels of immmobility. Call your local Social & Caring Services help desk for the application form. If you believe that at some future date, you may be able to return to work, there is another benefit called Incapacity Benefit. For this, you would speak to your doctor who can refer you through to Social Services. In the case of DLA and AA, a medical person will visit you at home, now and again every 5 years, to assess your level of immobility. For Incapacity Benefit, your doctor will assess and report on your condition.
