I bought a genie lamp from ebay , I was wondering how I can tell if there is really a or genie in the lamp?

Depends how much you paid. If it was less than $50 then it is probably not a real genie lamp. Lamps with real genies tend to fetch $100 - $5000, depending on how long the genie was in there for. For $5000 you get a ten foot high, 2000 year old genie, who will grant you three wishes in exchange for his freedom, including great wealth, beautiful women, etc, etc.

For $100 you get an teenage escapee from a turkish prison who got trapped inthe bottle by a curse while robbing a grave about ten years ago. He can grant you the ability to use the remote control on your DVD recorder, and tell you where your lost carkeys are, but that's about it.

So, it all comes down to what you paid.

simply wipe it clean and with a rub of a rag a genie should come out like smoke at first and be rooted to the lamp.
