People should be required to re-take a driving test anytime they have gathered up a certain number of points on their license, or had a serious at fault accident. Not based on age, not based on every "x" years, but rather based on driving history.

Repeat driving tests could be an option, however the roads could be made safer if more pelican crossings were installed and road layouts made easier to understand.

Mainly education is a good idea, and perhaps a re-test of the theory part of the test might be an idea too, but those failing it would be able no retake over a one year period, before licenses are removed.

I think the starting age in the UK for driving should be raised to 20, and the engine size limited to 1400cc or a BHP limit.

How approximately Bush did not something. Little exciting fact Obama has deported extra illegals then Bush for the duration of an identical term. yet you under no circumstances hear that on Fox information. And 25 million?. final time i checked the estimate became 12 million illegals. And what makes you think of all 12 or 25 will vote democrat or Obama. and you do not grow to be a citizen in a single day there is no magic wand. try to be a permant place of residing for 5 yrs before you may prepare for citizen and then approximately 6months-11/2 365 days to get authorized and get citizenship. and that's if all 12 or 25 prepare for citizen, that is easily not the case. So end being paranoid. What did the excellent conservatives did for the duration of the 8yrs of Bush?.

no. no matter how much instruction some one has they wont get any better.
its down to the person and there brain compacity to take in what they are taught.
every one is in to much of a rush to get home and watch eastenders so there driving goes out the window.
stop morons in cars using phones( this wont happen as a speed camara cant move)
impove road standards, improve road layout and make the test tougher on observation.
this would make a big difference. increase the age to 18 with a maximum engine size of a 1.6. make every one do a motorcycle cbt and ride a scooter or bike for a month prior to driving a car.

A much more effective way of reducing road accidents would to raise the driving age to about 25 - 30 at which age youths are starting to develop sense, and to limit car engine size and power and fitting all cars with limiters to control speed to the legal limits.

YES!!

We test our children every year on their amount of knowledge retention in school. But when we "adults" who "know it all" get our licences at age 16 (or 18, whatever) we never have to prove that we remember all the facts and rules of the road. It is obvious that many of us forget by the way we drive.

I'd even go so far as to say get this test each time you renew your licence.

Yes, they should. However a better idea would be for the driving test to include some kind of IQ test and personilty profiling. People seem to think that being able to drive a car is a given right. I wouldn't trust a lot of people out there to operate a photocopier, let alone operate a 1 ton car at 80mph.

No need to retake the test but after liability in a serious accident a retake should be compulsory.
Restrict young kids on cars BHP, make the test more real, forget the silly video part, incorporate motorway driving.

Be nice if everybody on the road had taken a test in the first place rather than getting a licence off of the top of a cornflake packet..

No point. Anyone can drive well for half an hour if they really have to.

When I learnt to drive, drunk driving wasn't the social evil it is now. It was quite normal to get blasted out of your skull and then drive home. Nowadays, a drunk driver is public enemy number one. That proves that education works.

We need to apply the same amount of education to all the other aspects of bad driving, instead of just wringing our hands and moaning about it - then we'd get somewhere.

Yes all 65 year olds should retake a test, if the average pass age is 23 years then by the time they reach 65 there knowledge is 42 years negative not positive.
Young at heart does not equal quick thinking and responsive driving.
When did you last see a 65 year old fighter pilot !
