Whenever I watch tv in our living room and I'm sitting on the 2-seater couch, my apartment-mate always sits right next to me on it. Why doesn't he just sit on the other couch that's a 3-seater which is right there?

my dear,it so happens that nobody wants to be lonely.Your apartment-mate sits just next to you because he feels natural just to be next to a human being instead of sitting alone on the 3-seater.You should not be bothered with this just welcome him because he do this to show you that you're the same and he likes you.

One of two reasons - He has no concept of personal space, or a different one from yours, or he believes that you two are closer than you feel you are.
If he's in your space let him know that he's making you uncomfortable, or that you just want more room. If he can't/won't respect that, maybe you need a new roomie.

i think he must not be aware of the another couch or it can be he just wants to get more closer to u. if u hate this pls straightway tell him or u change ur seat to show ur disapproval. if still he doesn't understand make him understand with ur firm words that how much u hate his behaviour. be bold. don't spoil ur mood by others wrong behaviour.

Haven't you worked it out? He is a male, and you are female. Can't you take it as a compliment? It's just a sofa, he aint stalking you.
