Knuckle Rings For Fighting

If you punch someone in the face with 500 pounds of force with your fist, your fist is also being impacted with 500 pounds of force by their face. Think of the physics behind the thumbtack. You push on the tack cap with a few pounds of pressure and the pressure is transfered to the tip of the tack. Now you have a few pounds of pressure concentrated on to a tiny point. Thats why you can press a tack into a wall so easily. If you have a piece of metal between you and your target, both will feel the effects of the concentrated pressure. 500 pounds of pressure will concentrated to a very small area where the ring makes contact. True, you could probably tear into flesh fairly easily, the ring can cut you just as easily - unless you spread the force out where it contacts your hand, say you cut a length of steel pipe to cover your finger and put the ring over it. This way the force is spread out over the entire finger knuckle instead of a small area. This is how brass knuckles work. The force of the punching hand absorbs the pressure because it is spread out over the entire hand.

depending on the ring in can hurt you as much.
But i sound like your going out to find trouble, which is very bad and a sure way to up up in jail or a gutter somewhere.
Ever thought about channeling the energy by taking up some form of full contact sport like rugby or Muay Thia. It worked for me now i don't have that pent up aggression and i have the confidants to talk my way peacefully out of most problems.
By the way i am a licensed doormen and we look out for younger people wearing large rings, I'm not saying they are all trouble, but if you do hit someone with a ring and the law are called by the mark on there face it can be traced to your ring, ( just a thought every where you now has cctv so please try and keep your nose clean)

Yes it can although you'll really have an upper hand on the other guy if instead of just one ring you get a set of brass knuckles.

I do hope this is a hypothetical question and not asking permission to go pummel someone as if you do that you can get in mucho trouble with the cops.

well... maybe a brass kunckle would, but i doubt a ring. A ring would probably cause superficial scratch wounds and hurt your fingers if you punched something hard like a skull.

Also, if the ring isn't the kind to scratch, it would just localise the force of the attack into a smaller space and feel more like a hard poke.

It all depends on the ring and how you punch. With rings on you always run the risk of hurting yourself. It is obvious that you will hurt your opponent. In addition, I you are a martial arts you should not be trying to find ways to hurt people. All honorable martial arts adhere to the following creed:

Walk away before you fight
Fight before you are hurt
Hurt before you are maimed
Maim before you are killed
Kill or be Killed

Yea, same goes for gloves, and any other jewely or pieces of metal on your hand. You basically have protection from that specific point while on the other hand the other guy is gonna be tasting metal, even if it is a ring...Also obviously gonna be VERY painful if your rings got a nice sharp pointy rock on it...

The Ring, as much as it can hurt the other guy in a fight it can hurt you as well, therefor you need to be very cautious. that is why nowadays rings and necklaces and braclets are not allowed in martial atrs during competitions.

I don't know where you wear your rings, but I wear mine on my fingers, not on my knuckles.

If you try to punch someone with your fingers instead of your knuckles you're going to do yourself a lot more damage than you do them.
