Jesus was a very common name during Roman times. It's very common now in Hispanic communities.

Just as an aside, Jehovah is not the name of God. During the second temple era the priest decided the name of God was too holy to say so they substituted the word adoni for it. In the written text they'd often put the symbols that represent adoni in between the letters for "I AM" which is the name God gave to Moses. When the Torah (Old Testament) was translated to English the translators were unaware of the reason for this so translated what they saw. Jehovah is actually a compound word meaning I AM and Lord.

That's right.

God's name is Yahawah.
YHWH with "A's".

Easy and closer than Jehovah.

Occasionally you will see Jesus referred to as Yahshua which is Yah's Savior - even sounds the same in some ways.

There are a few that write Y'hshua, this is an error that really comes from the Jewish tradition that also uses G'd rather than God and Y'h rather than Yah (our Jah)

I actually think it is disrespectful to write G'd, Gd, Y'h, or Y'hshua.

So if you name your child Joshua it is the English version of Yahshua even sounds alike and has Yah right in it.

so does Elijah or Eliyah.

Many people, as I see it, honor or dedicate their child to God by using one of these names.

Just because a name has a meaning;

David (Beloved);
Jesus (Jehovah is Salvation);
Jeremiah (Jehovah Exalts)
Jehovah (He Causes to Become)

In the Greek Septuagint Ex 3:14 reads in English
'I am The Being' This helps us to see that 'I am' is a
poor translation of the meaning of God's name.

Doesn't mean that it isn't a name.

Just because the Jews felt that God's name is to holy to pronounce, doesn't mean it is not a name.

What name of God are people to make holy?
What name of God are we not to use in vain?
What name of God did Jesus make known to his disciples?
What name of God did Jehovah glorify in John 12?

What name of God are people using that caused God to write their names down in the book of remembrance?
Mal. 3.?

What name appears 7000 times in the bible?

If you name your child Jeremiah, Joshua (Jesus), and a score of other biblical names, you will be using God's Name.

To name your child 'Jehovah' though would be disobeying the 10 Commandments.

ha. yeah, i've often wondered this. i've only known hispanic people names Jesus. I do know that when my cousin was pregnant she jokingly said she was going to call her son Jesus and got some really dirty looks from the nurse. But you hear the name all the time in Hispanic cultures, so I dunno.
