Well done on over simplifying the question. Migrants are people who go to other countries with an intention to stay there to make a better live for themselves.
Expats go to other countries, turn a chunk of it into 'little Britain on the Costa del Sol' and continue to live as though they're in any given part of England. But they lie to themselves constantly saying they'll go home sometime.

But it's got precisely nothing to do with black or white.

By the way, tartanbeastie, foo's yer doos? How're you doin way up north? Wee thumbs up for you.
Hairybeastie here. Portsmouth's shite as always :)

Speaking from the states anyone who goes to work abroad is an expat white or non white. But if some one from the states goes to actually get dual citizenship they are called migrants. One more thing In the states, there are many migrant workers. They are seasonal workers they come mainly from Mexico to work in the fields but not only are say mexicans migrants there are many migrant workers that have us citizenship they just go where the work is that is why they are called migrants. Many people in the south that is where I am originally from work tobacco for example. Tobacco can be worked all year and many people follow the farm work that also is migrant.

It has nothing to do with the color of ones skin. You mean Americans. Why is it that when Americans go abroad to work they are expats while others are migrants?

An expatriate (in abbreviated form expat) is someone temporarily or permanently in a country and culture other than that of their upbringing and/or legal residence. The word comes for the Latin ex (out of) and patria (country).
A migrant is someone who goes to another country for work with the intention of staying.

Another view is this: Expats are tourist, don't leave their country to work or live in another country, they're travelling extensively. Migrants, these days, are usually illegal and looking for work.

Scenario 1: panama hats; sipping gin and tonics in the shade on the terrace; quaffing a bottle of wine with a gastronomical meal of the local cuisine; conversations about what defines the perfect epicure; interacting with the locals and exchanging quaint little idiosyncrasies.

Scenario 2: hordes of foreigners stealing jobs; tax-dodging asylum seekers using migrant workers as camouflage to illegally enter the country; schools imploding as they have to deal in more than one language; the health service unable to cope with the increased demand brought about by strange diseases; the whole country left up fraudster-creek without a cross-channel ferry.

Not bad from someone who is "uttterly stupid," eh?

Not all white people who move abroad are expats. Expatriates are people who go and work in a foreign country but do not intend on staying there and will be returning to their country of origin at some point. They are not always white! Government officials who work abroad, although will be returning, are not called expats. If a person moves to another country regardless of their colour and intend to stay their and adopt the culture of that country are not called expats, they are migrants, again regardless of colour.

Migrant workers are those people who move from place to place for work. Like fruit pickers for example.

A lot of migrant workers are immigrants because it's easy unskilled labor, and if they are illegal, it keeps them moving. But even white American citizens can be migrant workers.

If and American, white or black or purple, goes over seas for a job, they may be considered the same in those countries;

But one difference might be that those American's that work overseas, apply for, or work for a company that transfers them, and have a job BEFORE the make the move. They simply just don't show up in France looking to mow lawns or move about the country side picking grapes and such.

And most other countries have stricter laws about immigrant workers than here in the US to keep those things from occurring.

A lot of white people who go to work abroad are either volunteering their services for free or are helping out other countries with less fortunate people at a lower cost. It isn't always about racism when people are discriminated against, it's usually due to mannerisms and etiquette.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Immigrant)

Although human migration has existed throughout human history, immigration in the modern sense refers to movement of people from one nation-state to another. Immigration implies long-term permanent residence (and often eventual citizenship) by the immigrants: tourists and short-term visitors are not considered immigrants (see expatriates).

An expatriate (in abbreviated form, expat) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence. The word comes from the Latin ex (out of) and the Greek and Latin patria (πατριά - country), and is sometimes misspelled (either unintentionally or intentionally) as ex-patriot or short x-pat, because of its pronunciation.

The term is often used in the context of Westerners living in non-Western countries, although it is also used to describe Westerners living in other Western countries, such as Australians living in the United Kingdom, or Britons living in Spain.

Expatriate can just as well be used to describe any person living in a country other than where they hold citizenship, but is generally not used for government officials stationed in a foreign country.

I guess when white people in your world go abroad they are eventually returning to their country of origin.

I guess when non-whites in your world go abroad they are not going to return to their country of origin.

I'm not sure the terms are used exclusively based on skin color.

Expats are usually working away from UK for a limited time period with the intention of returning once their contract has expired. They have no intention on expecting the host country to provide for them.

Migrants move to another country with the over-riding intention of taking advantage of the welfare available in that country.

becuz the white man is supposedly pure when it comes to other cultures.. especially since the white man was the one who came here to build up America and Blah blah blah...they also were the ones who kicked other cultures out of their own states and brought blacks here as slaves etc etc.... that's what i think that's pretty much how the older white men think..to them they are the pure breeds while every one else is just the ground they walk on... I'm not trying to be racist but that's just what i see around me .. sorry if i offended any one..

Not true. There are a lot of Expats' clubs in the US.

Fortunately, a lot of nations, unlike our nation, don't separate their citizens by race.
