No. The dvd-rom drive on the 360 can't read HD-DVDs, so that would be impossible.

Yes, if it has the HD-DVD (not the Sony Blue Ray, and not every originally got the HD-DVD drive for their X-box 360 although there is a add on now) and you have a monitor or TV that supports at least 720P-1080i, although new HD-DVD drives can support 1080p (some first generation HD DVDs could only support 1080i). Technically it's also a HD-DVD player.
